Get assets on design spec mode
On the design specs mode, I should be able to direct developers to where a specific asset is. Sometimes I want to attach a link to an asset (if it's common use, a logo hosted on S3 for an example), sometimes the dev needs to be able to download the asset (be it an image already scaled to 1x, 2x, etc or the code of an SVG to embed into a page) and the third case is that I need to attach some free text (for example a path on our local server or the icon code on font awesome fa-camera).
Hi All,
With XD’s 11.0 release (which happened moments ago), we’ve made this feature live.
You can now save time and give developers the ability to extract and download assets from Design Specs. Mark layers as assets for export and send as a Design Specs link. Developers can download all the assets in the file format they need
As always, please do let us know about what you think of this feature and feel free to log the improvements that you’d like to see in this workflow as new requests at https://adobexd.uservoice.com/forums/353007-adobe-xd-feature-requests?category_id=323330
Thanks,
Harish

I am not seeing the option for developers to download the assets as JPG. Only PNG or PDF. Is there a way to set these preferences somewhere? Or is this functionality just not available?

Would love to see artboards with saved assets marked visually in some way in the design specs and also in the live file view. Additionally, marking them in the layers as well or in a separate UI potentially.

The way you have done it is correct, all assets should be visible for the artboard on the artboard overview.
but also selecting a marked object should allow for the download of only that object (like Zeplin).
Currently users will have to go to artboard level to see whether an asset is extractable which breaks the flow.I know you did this because specs doesn't allow for group clicking and goes straight to content, but maybe marking a group for extraction makes all content inside the group show the asset download on specs.

@harish: Also, sending a private share with an email push never worked the 10 times I tried. I also sent to myself outside my own LAN, to a different LAN, but the link was corrupt every time and lead to a error telling me I had to log-in to an Adobe CC account. This in addition to three ways of sharing specs leading to the same page is bloated if you ask me. CC sharing sucks big time. Zeplin is superiour to this. I don't get what Adobe is doing here to be honest.

@harish: Access to CC requires and Adobe ID. I can't share anything in my CC profile unless the recipient has established an Adobe id. A public share and a share is the same thing, you can password protect a published share like design specs, or send it as an email push. It generates the same result only sharing design specs doesnt require Adobe ID for the recipient.

@jan : Accessing a public Design Specs link does not require any Adobe ID to log in. As a designer, you'd be able to choose to publish a design specs link as either a public link with unrestricted access or make it a private link with access restricted to only the invitees.
@briank : We are aware of a selection issue in Design specs : Clicking elements that were originally part of a group/symbol select the layer within the group/symbol and not the actual group/symbol. We have a fix and love to get your feedback before we make it live. Can you please share the link/design with me at hnarayan(at)adobe(dot)com?

Never mind, I found the asset location. It is located in the 'Overview' sidebar, when nothing else is selected. If you ask me that is a little bit hard to figure out. If I select a symbol or group I should see that object's asset download options. Currently I have to deselect everything to see ALL assets. I'm happy it's possible I just wish it was more intuitive. Keep up the pace though!

What are requirements for this to work? From what I can tell any single Path object works, or Text. But Grouped objects or Symbols don't seem to give the option in Design Specs... Is this limited to single Path objects only?

Doesn't mean much unless you remove the Adobe ID requirement for collaborators. No developer I have collaborated with wants to establish a membership anywhere in order to see anything. If it doesn't work by clicking a link and viewing it with no terms or conditions it won't be used. Then it's Zeppelin for me.

Yes! Can't wait to give this a proper spin. At first glance it seems that the matter / structure of export is defined by the artboard size. Noticed PNG export for Android is done in the correct structure. I hope it's reliable. Will definitely be posting feedback.

The sneak peek on Andrew Shorten's Twitter didn't seem to include any special options for PNG exporting for multiple platforms. For example, Android apps require a special folder structure (drawable-hdpi, etc) and special scales (1x, 1.5x, 2x, 3x, 4x) and UWP apps require a suffix in the file name (iconname.scale-100.png, iconname.scale-150.png, etc) and their own set of scales. Seems this feature only supports iOS PNG assets at the moment? Any chance it could be made more flexible to support other platforms?

Can you do what Avocode does? They have this thing called the Monroe system that allows developers to get the asset without having the designer mark which assets can be exported from the design file?

This is coming soon. Sometime back, We showed a sneak of this feature in twitter . Please do have a look at it here https://twitter.com/ashorten/status/1009794328896499715

Really miss asset export in Design Specs. It's tedious to separate all the bitmaps and vectors manually and ship that to the developer instead of having the export process take care of that by itself so the recipients can download it inside the spec review. This is where Zeplin is way better, there you get the vectors in all the current formats and it is so much easier to identify and implement for coders and developers.. Hope to see that happens in XD for BOTH OS!!
And by the way: I also wish we could edit our posts here instead of having to delete them and start over again. C'mon Adobe.

This feature is really important in order to reduce time in the design process.
Designer should have the possibility to choose the best format for the assets and let the developers the possibility to download one asset or all the assets at once.
Thanks in advance

Get this done ASAP and launch on both platforms.

This features definitely helps developers in accessing the assets with great ease and gives more freedom.
Hope this comes real soon. -

This feature already exists in Photoshop Publish for Developers. Please make this available in xd as well.

I don't understand why this hasn't been a top priority from day one!
