Are you certain you’re actually editing the master component? If you right-click on an instance and choose Edit Master Component, it should select or open the master component for the instance. A visual cue is you will see a green diamond in the upper left corner when you have selected a master component.
Another circumstance in which a change in master won’t be synced in the instance is if you’ve already overridden the instance – i.e., you edited the text in the instance before you changed the text in the master component.
Please let us know if either of the above two scenarios are what you ran into. If not, please add more details about what you’re seeing.

Same problem here. In fact I can't even change the stacking order of objects that are already in the master, although I can change things like colour, outline thickness etc.

Sorry for the false alarm! Someone pointed out to me that I interpreted the request incorrectly. While you can now select objects both in the artboard and on the pasteboard, you cannot yet select objects on the pasteboard and complete artboards themselves.
Several of the items originally mentioned here are covered by other feature requests already:
- Dotted/dashed lines: https://adobexd.uservoice.com/forums/353007/suggestions/13024749-dotted-and-dashed-line-border-styles
- Accept CSS as input for styling XD elements: https://adobexd.uservoice.com/forums/353007/suggestions/12926715-use-css-to-specify-object-appearance
The only suggestion I think we don’t have listed yet is arrow-head line endings. To keep the request list tidy, I will change the title here so it is specifically focused on that one idea. Please upvote the other links above so your interest in those features is captured too.
Thanks for your feedback!
