Resizing elements within components should resize bounds
Give us the ability to re-size master components after we create them. Currently if you add/change anything outside of the master component initial size, it gets masked off with no way to resize the master (and then all the instances) of the component.

Hi XD Community -
Thanks for your feedback!
With XD’s August release, you could resize/move/add/remove objects inside a component, and the component bounds will automatically adjust to fit those objects.
Please give it a try and let us know what you think.

I have tried it and it is clear to me that i need to be able to manually define the symbol size as well as position the content in it to have minus values.
I have a number of text symbols in a material design system with the text inside. The text line height in the example is set to 16 instead of 19 by default and must be used in the buttons and other components. yet i can't make text be in the middle of the symbol as i have it in Sketch. XD keeps updating the symbol size as i try to move the text element up and i cant prevent it. As the text in XD doesn't work quite as it's supposed to work on the web (html/css/android) or in Development (the line height problem) i cant place my text in the verticalmiddle of the symbol as it keeps updating it's boundaries. This issue is related to the long requested https://adobexd.uservoice.com/forums/353007-adobe-xd-feature-requests/suggestions/13813872-line-height-should-function-as-it-does-on-the-web

Anytime I resize a component, the hover state stays the original size. It's very frustrating!

It looks like this has been fixed with the latest update. Thank you Xd team for delivering!

You're the hero of the day David Dickerson – thank you so much for the workaround. Adobe, in order to use XD for developing and working with design systems, we need to get this fixed ASAP

PLEASE fix this!!
I'm forking over more money to Adobe than ever before, yet it seems they've got a team of interns working on software development and quality assurance. I want so badly for Adobe XD to be my go-to UX/UI design app, but there have been so many silly bugs like this – it's practically unusable at a pro-level.

Thank you David Dickerson for your help. It is really annoying when you need to make an extra move to fix it. This should definitely be done automatically.

Go on - this is a very very bad bug. We need ASAP a fix.

One workaround i've found to work well is If you change the width / height through the right panel (so not resizing with mouse) it'l resize it correctly :)

The workaround we have been using is to create one rectangle THE SIZE OF THE ARTBOARD (or bigger) in the GROUP before creating a COMPONENT. It depends upon how long your columns might grow.
I created an account to offer up our workaround for this frustrating behaviour of XD. I reckon I have no right to complain about free software. I have been using XD a lot since Feb2019 and there are many annoying foibles better stated in relevant threads :-)

Yes, this is frustrating, and needs to be fixed ASAP.
A potential workaround for now that seems to be working for me is to edit the component (don't ungroup it), and select all layers within and create a new group. Set that new group to fixed height and width in the responsive resizing settings. Now you can select the master component layer and resize without resizing the contents.

100% agree, this is super confusing and frustrating.

How this ever made it through testing is absolutely baffling.
What Steven Jenner said below is absolutely correct. Having to constantly erase and re-paste your components is maddening. I'm about to go back to Sketch or Invision. This is ridiculous.

Same issue - this bug is causing a ton of rework all the time as parameters on the projects change and then you are forced to erase all of your old Components and reinsert the new version onto every board thereby defeating the point of using a Component in the first place.

I believe the request here should be "automatically resize the bounds of the master component to avoid clipping content within the component that is later resized or repositioned to be larger than the original bounding box." (It's already possible to resize the master component by dragging and dropping, but it's a pain to have to do it manually.)
