Symbol / component isolation mode during edit (dim out other elements in background)
When you edit a symbol inline, it would be really useful if everything else dulled out or something, so that it was cleat that that is what your doing – think isolation mode in illustrator
I just confused the hell out of myself by repositioning the contents of a symbol, rather than the symbol itself, then at some point later seeing all my other artboards with random positioned stuff. And then when trying to fix (without realising what had happened), I managed to edit the symbol again : /

I think this should be considered for more than just clarity, but for robustness during co-editing and editing the main component when it is used in several places.
Having an isolation mode where nothing outside of the isolated component gets updated until you leave isolation mode would help greatly with the computation for live updating components across the entire file as you are editing (because it would remove live editing until you leave isolation mode). It is really slow to update a widely used complex component at the moment, or can even crash in some instances.

I agree with some of the comments about having a separate canvas to edit the symbol. Currently, it is just too tricky to edit a symbol like a universal nav. I find my self double clicking a lot to re-access the symbol and getting confused as to whats apart of the symbol and what isn't.
I've actually been giving up on editing symbols by unlinking the symbol so its not a symbol, editing it, and then making a new symbol, then copying/pasting that back into design. That has actually been easier then editing the symbol, so that's how annoying it currently is.

Has this glitch been fixed yet? I'm in Adobe Animate CC and It doesn't work. This is the way Flash used to work--as you clicked further into your nested symbols, the other symbols in your character would DIM, isolating the symbol, so you can work on it--why doesn't this work anymore? is there some button or function I need to click now?

I've done this too! It really needs to be more clear that you're editing a master Symbol. Some form of isolation mode would be great.

It's far too easy to double-click your way through to editing artwork that's part of a symbol without realising it. The green outline is not clear enough and easily missed.
Maybe when editing a symbol, dim all elements not in the symbol and including the current location in the stack of objects at the top of the window, like Isolation mode in Illustrator.

Oops, voted for this, but realised that this already works:

Editing a symbol right now requires you to drag it out the symbols panel onto the canvas or edit it right where you use it (both ways require a double click to get into the symbol). This is working and it makes sense.
I think it would be very useful to have a dedicated symbols view (a seperate canvas) with all symbols (automatically) placed on. Ready to be edited without having to double click each. Making work on multiple symbols much easier.
This is not a new or special idea. Sketch does this and it's something I got very used to. Very powerful tool/view.

Would be great to be able to name symbols that were created in addition to seeing the thumbnail of it.
Also would be great to be able to edit Symbols directly on a separate window. Once edits are applied, it automatically updates all the instance where the symbols are placed.

Hi there!
It's a bit difficult when we create a new symbol on the 'Symbol Library' and it needs to be edited. Will be awesome something like double click to edit the symbol isolated.
Thank you

Right now, when you group objects or you have symbols and you edit them, it's so easy to get lost on which symbol or group you're editing.
Can we have a way that sort of dims the background when you're editing objects in a group and also when you're editing deeper or nested groups?
Maybe have a way to indicate which part of the symbol you're on so you don't have to double click multiple times just to get to where you want to edit when you do a miss-click outside and you end up on the top most layer?
My reference could be how adobe animate is when you go to edit a symbol or a group, it gives you a visual feedback that you're actually editing inside a group or symbol.
It's really frustrating sometimes.
