An error occurred while saving the comment Richard Pearce commentedIt's far too easy to double-click your way through to editing artwork that's part of a symbol without realising it. The green outline is not clear enough and easily missed.
Maybe when editing a symbol, dim all elements not in the symbol and including the current location in the stack of objects at the top of the window, like Isolation mode in Illustrator.

Thanks for the tip. I guess it's a workaround that essentially does what I need, even if I do have to zoom out after selecting it. Still think handling it in the UI would be beneficial, but happy that this trick lets me achieve what I need to.
I don't suppose there's a similar shortcut to zooming to the whole artboard for a selected object?
