Anytime we can reduce the need to copy art boards to create interactions would be very cool-you know - DRY method ( don't repeat your self )
Art boards - DRY method - for interaction.
We already have a number of these suggestions in the backlog already, such as:
- Overlays: https://adobexd.uservoice.com/forums/353007/suggestions/12924909
- Microinteractions: https://adobexd.uservoice.com/forums/353007-adobe-xd-feature-requests/suggestions/12869229-animate-individual-elements-separately-custom-ani
- Interactive form elements: https://adobexd.uservoice.com/forums/353007-adobe-xd-feature-requests/suggestions/13833198-interactive-form-elements
Please do swing by these three (and file other ideas) to help with reducing the number of artboards you need to create your designs.
Thanks!

One category of use case that quickly comes to mind is microinteractions, like dropdowns, hover states, tooltips, error text, filling in text when clicking a text field. My take on Brianui's request is that, as much as possible, it'd be really nice to have a 1-to-1 relationship between artboards and computer screens. Not multiple artboards to represent one screen so that you can show a dropdown opening, for instance. A perfect 1-to-1 relationship won't always be possible, but getting close will have a huge positive impact.
The request for symbols to have multiple states would solve all of the cases above.
