Since even before they officially abandoned it it was going down hill but there were no alternatives until Sketch came along. While Fireworks still opens on latest Macs, if you open too many windows or open large files in the latest version it crashes. And can only assume in the next version of OS X, compatibility will break completely and Adobe won't update it as they will use it as a chance to officially get everyone to stop using it, in favor of Photoshop, Xd or Sketch.
Sadly Adobe has been some bad to it's Fireworks following that all the users who would be clamoring for this feature most likely no longer exist because they switched to Sketch. So I imagine Adobe won't see it worth their wild to add backwards compatibility with Fireworks sadly. If they did, it will probably prevent the remaining fireworks users from switching to sketch, but doubtful.

While it may "sound" like a feature request this is a bug. The drag image feature is available in all current Adobe products and most third party Mac image products and most all Apple products that support images.
It was also supported in the original version of Adobe XD (Fireworks) which ultimately this program is a replacement of, albeit a fresh start approach. With Fireworks it worked and then at one point it stopped working and took many months but finally Adobe fixed the bug, then a year or so later happened again and then many months later was finally resolved. There are bug reports in regards to it throughout the adobe forums.
Hopefully this can be resolved so that XD functions like all current Adobe image products.
