Keyboard shortcut: Rename layer/group
Would love to have a menu item at the very least, that I could assign a keyboard shortcut, to rename a layer or group. I'm on a big display and it wastes so much of my time, dragging my mouse all the way to the top left to also double click a layer.

Hello guys! I found a solution (in mac) that maybe you can find helpful:
1. Per Randy Edmunds' idea, install the "rename it" extension (https://renameit.design/xd)
2. In Custom keyboard shortcuts (macosx) create one for the existing "Object->Make Repeat Grid" and asign it to anything but CMD+R, this way you "release" the default shortcut mapping.
3. Assign CMD+R to "Plugins->Rename It->Rename Selected Layers"
* you can also do these with a diff extension to show rulers or anything else works for you.
Hope it helps!
There's now an extension that does this (and more) called Rename It (https://renameit.design/xd).
Does that help?

This would be extra nice with Auto-Animate as the layers need to be named the same thing in order for that to work. Multiple layer rename with a contextual menu or keyboard shortcut would be amazing and really make Auto-Animate that much easier to use.
On Windows, F2 is the standard short cut for "Rename" (as far as I know, on MacOS it is Enter).
Currently, only Enter is available - also on Windows. In XD, I usually press first F2 to rename Artborards, change text etc. and then remember that I have to use enter :-(
Thanks for sending in Feature Requests. Now that Adobe XD has plugin support, you may be able to implement that as a plugin.
One timesaver is to create all your layers first, double-click to name the first one, then use Tab key to commit name and edit name of next layer to quickly go through the list. Can also use Shift-Tab to go to previous layer.
Hope this helps,
It would be nice if I could rename layers using a shortcut.
Sketch / InVision studio allow you to press cmd + r and then type away name any element currently selected (layers, groups, artboards, etc.)
Having to double tap in the layers panel is time-consuming with such a repetitive task as renaming stuff.
Usually I try to name my objects, right after I create them. So currently I have to reach to the very left of my monitor all the time in order to do so. Having a shortcut would definitely speed things up a lot (especially on larger monitors, where the distance can be quite something)
Please add this feature it is really frustrating to have to double click on layers to rename them.

This should be a TOP PRIORITY
This is such a basic thing, why was it left out! It's practically the only thing in the layer right-click menu which doesn't have a shortcut, yet it's by far the option I use the most...
I would save lot of time at the end of the day, thats the kind of features super users love

Yes, please add some shortcut. We really need it
please add this shortcut....its a time saver
This renaming layers via keyboard shortcut is a required feature for making professional, well organised design deliverables. Some modifier key + R would be my assumption for this. This is literally useful several hundred times a day. Unbelievable that it doesn't exist.
Someone below recommends using 'Enter'. Maybe that works on Windows, but on a Mac it does not work.
When would be getting this feature? Very difficult when you are working in a large project.
Its not the world's most importand...
This is an extremely important feature.

I would also like a keyboard shortcut to be able to rename items, not just from inside the layers panel but also when you click on a layer, symbol, group, or artboard on the canvas. In that case, clicking Enter wouldn't work, so it'd need to be another keyboard shortcut. Sketch uses Cmd-R, for instance.
