[Windows] Save dialog on exit
Right now the Windows app saves automatically when closing, I would like that there be a dialog that asks whether the file should be saved or not instead.
Hi,
Thanks to everyone who shared feedback! We’ve added this feature in our latest release.
Update your XD on Windows to the latest version and let us know how the feature works.
Best,
Dan

@Dan, this feature is working 100% as expected for me. Thank y'all so much for getting this prioritized and released!

Very important. I lost my work from last two months, because there isn't any history and save dialog box. I thought that I just have to be carefull to not close when I didn't save. I didn't think that there is auto-save! I remove all artboards to make a specification for one artboard and probably close the app (I did that beacause I have a lot of different sites which not all connect to other. And now there is only one artboard... What to do now?

Soooo, mine doesn't save when it closes at all on Windows. Some people's comments say that it is saving on close? Is there even a common denominator here? I understand the feature has been started to create a dialog, but can I get clarification on exactly what the current state of affairs is? Mine has never saved successfully on exiting the Windows app..

So yesterday, I did a ton of work and it is gone. No record of it at all. This morning I am trying to figure out the logic on auto save. sometimes it remembers what I had open, other times it goes to the 'new' landing page. UGH.
If I have UI kits open and close in the wrong sequence, stuff just disappears w/o warning.
Note to self: save constantly because you can't trust Adobe to handle the basics. When does InVision Designer go GA?

Without undo history, this is big problem - without confirmation dialog, you can potentially lose lots of work!

@Jason couldn't have said it better!
@Mihnea the new Microcrap 3D Paint has a Save dialog box on exit, an app built on UWP. So I'm guessing this should be possible in 3rd party apps as well. I mean the guys at M$ that developed the UWP aren't that idiots in order to leave out such a basic function for a platform! But than again we are talking about M$ here... so we can't expect much when it comes to User Experience.
Greu ii cu mandria asta la noi romanii sa recunoastem cand am grestit! Exact cum zice tipu de mai devreme... recunoasteti ca asta e o problema si nu mai tot o luati pe ocolite.@Jasper how can you defend this bug!?!? Are you insane or you have nothing to do with actual graphic design work? Try this cool experiment... open XD and start a new file... draw a rectangle or something and close XD. Do this for like 10 times in a row... now check your Documents folder, and... SURPRISE! All your Unknown1...10 files are right there were you left them. See the importance of "Saving".
If someone has the time, please explain to @Jasper here why this is a problem... I don't really got the nerves to do it! -
Jasper commented
Why? It auto-saves. You literally don't have to think about saving anymore. More apps do this, e.g. SublimeText. Whenever you re-open the app and the file you were working on, you just continue where you left off?

@Mihnea, the problem with both your responses is they do not acknowledge that this is, in fact, an issue. They keep blaming the technology. As a customer, I don't much care what the technological limitations are around a feature that is so expected, yet broken.
Other Adobe products don't do this. XD for Mac does not do this. If the framework it was programmed with does not allow this, then it either needs to be invented or it should have been coded with something else. But at the very least, your team should acknowledge that this is an issue that will be fixed and quit blaming the tech.
This should not be a feature-in-the-backlog; it's not a feature, and this label means it'll never be dealt with. It should instead be a relatively high-priority bug for the Windows instance of this software, especially since the Mac version of the app does not function this way, so feature parity is inconsistent.

Adobe Dimension for Windows has a nice Save dialog when quitting the program.

As @Cristian points out, this is possible (and expected) behavior in an application of this nature.

I'm sure there's a way to achieve this feature... just look at the new Microsoft Paint.. this one has a "Save as" prompt when exiting.
So it should not be a problem making it work in XD as well. -

This may not be a bug with respect to how UFW is "supposed" to work, but I disagree with the decision to ignore this as a huge workflow issue.
XD has a "Revert to Saved" option, which is weird but works fine if I remember to use it before I close the app. However, if I edit the document, then close the file without choosing to save, I cannot use "Revert to Saved" when I reopen the document, and the undo history is also gone. This effectively means the file gets saved without me wanting to save it.
This is unexpected behavior for this type of application, and it has already caused me (and others, it seems) to lose a lot of work in XD because I was expecting a dialog box that would allow me to trash my changes since the last save.
This needs to be reconsidered. I believe the current functionality is unacceptable.

@Joel Yang Nice find! thanks for the tip. MSFT is really filling the gaps in UWP lately.

Weird this feature request has such a lower rating! Was it really necessary to make it a UWP app? And their putting a lot of effort for supporting pen and touch which is a pretty much a waste of time. Even several years from now professionals will still use the good old mouse and keyboard. I've been using XD with a wacom tablet for several week and has the same problem as other design software: the pen input is too sensitive to movement! Often times I click with the pen to select an object and I accidentally move it at the same time which is really annoying. In Paint Tool SAI, which ironic is not even a design tool, there's an intentional lag when dragging stuff so you don't move things accidentally. Maybe something like this could be useful in design software as well, but still it feels more natural to design apps using the mouse, for me at least.

Just like the title. I kinda panicked because I thought I closed without Saving.

There's a restricted capability called confirmAppClose in UWP (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/uwp/packaging/app-capability-declarations#special-and-restricted-capabilities).
Restricted capability is not Microsoft internal only, it needs store approval if you submit it to store. But for Adobe XD's case, maybe ask Microsoft about it. -

It really pains me that this isn't an option yet. I've had multiple occasions where I accidentally closed my XD window losing all my progress I made so far.

Apparently with UWP there's [no clear way](http://stackoverflow.com/questions/35056464/uwp-on-desktop-closed-by-top-x-button-no-event) of getting a Close event for a window.
I think that's an important UX pattern for apps with "documents" on desktop platforms, though. e.g. sometimes I open up a document and move things around/copy some pieces; those are changes I don't want to save so I would just click "No" on the close dialog.
In some cases it's good to be able to quit and make sure you roll back any changes you made.
Maybe Adobe can talk Microsoft into adding this to UWP?
