Auto Save (in case of system crash)
Auto save take away the worry of saving and losing data.
Hi everyone,
With XD versions 8 and 9 we’ve gradually released Auto-Recovery. This is a feature that restores files automatically in the event of an application or system crash. Auto-Recovery is enabled by default and available for both Windows 10 and Mac users.
How it works:
- While editing an XD file, Auto-Recovery runs in the background and stores the edits in a backup file at every 5 seconds. Every time you save the file, the backup is cleaned up from your disk, so there’s no impact on storage.
- In the event of an application or system crash, the backup file is used to restore the last unsaved edits to the original files.
- At next XD launch, the recovered file is available as a recent file in the Start screen or the “File” menu option.
- Recovered files can be identified by the “*” character added at the end of the document title.
- This feature has no impact on XD’s or your device’s speed and performance.
Auto-Recovery is not meant to substitute the workflow of manually saving the file. Continue to save your XD files frequently using the CMD / CTRL –> Save option.
Thank you for your patience and feedback! Update XD to the latest version and let us know if you experience any issues.
Best,
Dan

Did a whole load of work for a client and lost every single bit of it... was about 10 hours of work for a client all gone, no backup or auto recovery... need to get this fixed and have an autosave feature on the next update!!

This may be the worst program I've seen from Adobe. No auto recovery makes this program almost useless and as far as actual an actual working platform, it's substandard at best. Why put the ASSET/PAGE icons at the bottom of the toolbar screen? Most designers work with large monitors and you're continually moving to the bottom of the page to shift between Icon. Plus, having the editing tools on the right side is equally awkward, given the fact there is so little in the way of tools on the left side. I love adobe products but XD is really bad.

Or how about, even if you don't save it ... you show a message every 30 minutes or so if the document hasn't been saved?! There are many ways to save your paying customers some serious grief!

Lost several days' work ... thought for sure I'd saved it or it would autosave ... my macbook pro crashed and the things I've been working on for days are gone! This is a trivial feature ... even if you did it every 30 minutes that would be a great saving in a catastrophe!

Can't believe this is still happening. Please fix ASAP! I keep losing work over and over and over again! Doesn't help that the Surface Book crashes every time you close the lid or goes to sleep.

Vote here, already being worked on - https://adobexd.uservoice.com/forums/353007-adobe-xd-feature-requests/suggestions/12930552-auto-save-in-case-of-system-crash.
But that said, most do not see crashes or hangs, what platform are you on and do you have reproducible steps?

Why still there is no auto save or recovery option in the app. I'm UI designer and I do make 100s of changes to my files everyday. I have no idea when the software crashes and I cannot constantly update my file manually every time when I make a change. Before crashes were happening once at a time, now every day I'm kinda losing some of my updates. It is so frustrating to do everything from the beginning. I'm losing a lot time and my patience is boiling up. Add auto save or give us option to recover our updates when crash happens. XD freezes and I have restart the software in order to continue to work. But when I do restart my updates are done. How long will I have to work this way?

ADD AN AUTO RECOVERY!!!! This program is too unstable to not have it. I keep losing all my work and I can't auto recover anything.
Get your software together already. This has been in BETA for over a year and the industry is going to pass you by if you don't hurry up. Seriously I'm about to switch to Sketch I'm so frustrated with your lack of updates.

is there any place (osx) where the temp files are stored? With some programs you can find the tmp files and force recovery if there's anything. What about for Adobe xd?

I really don't get it... what can be so complicated to implement a simple feature like autosave. Couldn't it be the same thing like pressing cmd + s every minute? I know it's still a beta version of the app, but does it really take this long?
I think you're going to lose quite a lot of users because this is one of the basic functions that shouldn't be missing. There's nothing more frustrating than losing 2 or more hours of work when you're already working in a business where there's a lot of stress.
So please focus on this or at least - until the correct feature is ready - an optional reminder function, which reminds me to manually save e. g. every 5min. -

To be fair, this was the first time XD had ever crashed on me since it came out, so that's great.

Oh god, had no idea this didn't have autorecovery like in PS/AI/every other mac program I use. Just lost two days work after not realizing I hadn't saved in awhile. Super facepalm and totally on me, I know, but dang not having this is a huge inconvenience.
