Export to PDF: Problem with masked images in a shape
Hi,
When I export my artboards to PDF format, Images which are masked with shape are misplaced. I've attached the images from my Artboard and image from the exported PDF format for the comparison & reference. Please look into it as soon as possible.
Thank you.
Thanks for your feedback. This seems to be a known bug with Apple Preview and not a problem with how we are generating PDFs. Please do check to see if this opens successfully in Acrobat Reader – if you’re still seeing this issue, please do file it in our Community Support forums: https://community.adobe.com/t5/adobe-xd/bd-p/xd?page=1&sort=latest_replies&filter=all

Krunal, I came across this situation too, but I was already able to set everything up. Hope you can fix it. Of course, the correctness of the work is important to me, let’s put it this way. And even more important are high-quality photos.

I saw this workaround below, and I had success. If you have the suite, open the exported XD PDF in Illustrator, and it should be good. Then re-export your pdf from there! @adobe you definitely need to solve this...

I hope this gets fixed soon too. Meanwhile, exporting the masked image as png and putting it back in seems to have temporarily resolved this issue.

This is not a proper solution @elaine, we are quite literally paying now for a service that isn't being delivered properly.. i may switch to figma at this point to be very honest.

I have the same issue, on my resume, my pictures looks like a strange d** pic, ... on a resume... do you see the problem here?

This issue also occurs in Adobe acrobat reader.
It's not just about Apple Preview.
Please fix it as soon as possible. I'm in great trouble at work, and I'm even considering migrating to Figma. -

Please fix this issue and enable the possibility to export the pdf content as a raster image instead of vectors.
It's annoying when you send things to client and there is always something not working with colors, mask etc..This issue is here from 2020.. cmon FIX THIS!!!

It is not just apple preview that is the problem. Don't blame the other guy. My client uses only pc based computers and sees the jumbled images too and can't see any of my pdf's accurately. Please fix this error Admin Adobe. This is really terrible.
A temporary fix is to do what Andrew Johnson said below. Save PDF from XD. Right click PDF-file and choose "Open with..." and choose "Save as Adobe PDF". That worked for me as well but for the $$$ you pay for the Adobe software you shouldn't have to try and find a temp "fix".

I did a grave mistake by choosing XD over Figma. Now I have a portfolio that I have been working on for months- which I promised to send today, but fully of distorted and mis-cropped images. It's the end of 2021, seriously!? and they charged me a hefty subscription to export this crap! FIX THIS.
Figma is a god-send compared to this.

Same problem here. Should export PDF to client, but had to copy and paste images to photoshop and back again to get it right.
Edit/ tried the same as Andrew Johnson said below. Save PDF from XD. Right click PDF-file and choose "Open with..." and choose "Save as Adobe PDF". That worked!!!!!!!!

I've struggled so much from this bug and even my resume went wrong because of the export problem. I've looked up many forums and tried one of the users' comments below, nothing worked. Even when I want to save it as an Adobe pdf, it didn't let me.
One thing I came up with that really saved my life is that you can always export the single element as a png or jpg and import it back in. So that when you export the pdf it won't mess up your masked image because itself is just an image.
Hope this is useful to some of you and I really hope one day this bug will be fixed soon🤞🏼

This is NOT just a bug in apple preview. It's RIDICULOUS that a simple export function doesn't work.

I have a work around for this, but not sure if it will be an option for everyone. Once I've saved out a PDF, I then right click on the file and it gives me an option to 'Save as Adobe PDF'. Once I've done that the file then opens up OK in Preview. See attached.

Masked image not displaying correctly in Preview on Mac. I am getting a zoomed in look at the image rather than as designed in XD. PDF opens fine in a web browser. Attached is a screenshot of the masked image that is supposed to be a profile image of a face.

A workaround is to open the PDF exported from XD in Illustrator and resaving.

Since we are providing these pdfs to clients, it would be nice to know that they are able to open this files on a mac with Preview or any other program!! You can't be serious about not fixing that issue.
