better highlight on canvas with next / previous fit-to-screen the result or highlight it more efficiently
When having a big canvas with multiple artboards it's very hard to spot that highlighted elements. Let's make it more visible :)

I am not really sure if this was suggested before.
But I'd say that once you select a component on the Document Assets, right click e select Highlight on canvas, XD should drag the user straight to the component. It happens everytime in big projetcts where I have singular components, I need to zoom out all the canvas to find where is the highlighted component. Please, make this easy. Just drag me straight to the thing I need! Thanks

Adobe Corporation's silence on this much-needed feature is strange. I understand development teams have to prioritize possible new features and, inevitably, many are placed on hold for future consideration.
However, the "Highlight on Canvas" feature proves that the Xd code can identify all instances of a given Character Style. Are we to believe that adding "Select on Canvas" would require 1. a large design team, 2. substantial development time, 3. a serious delay of other more urgently needed features?
Friends on the Adobe dev staff, you've seen this request posted here and elsewhere for three years. That's three years of iceboxing what seems like a fairly modest ask and that offers a significant payoff to existing, new, and potential users of Xd.
Please bring this up at your next stand-up.
Thanks for a great UI/UX tool

I use Xd daily and appreciate it's many features. Faced with cleaning up someone else's document, I was at first thrilled to find the "highlight" feature. I wrongly believed it would *select* all instances of that style and allow that style to be edited en masse.
From this aging Adobe requests thread, I see my hopes were in vain. Where is a reply from Adobe. Surely they have figured out that non-replies to years of posts is not increasing user confidence.
I'll grant that my screen name is goofy. But my above point is a serious one.

When an Asset is highlighted, enable focusing on the actual spot on canvas to locate it. Now, you have to manually look around the whole pasteboard to notice the highlighted Asset, which is not so intense either way to notice

If the [Canvas Highlight] function in the component can be changed to [View], then it is better to display the canvas with this component in order on the screen.
Because when designing a WEB project, 1⃣️ the large canvas icon is small; 2⃣️ my company's brand color is blue and purple, which is similar to the color of the highlighted frame, so it is difficult for me to find which pages use this component.

As I scroll through the list of Assets, automatically select the component on the canvas.
Thus it is located faster among so many elements.
Since it currently marks it but does not locate it, it becomes very difficult to locate it.

Too bad this hasn't been upvotes yet. I too think this is a strange function. If XD knows which item uses this asset, why can't I make it an active selection and change it all at once?
Specially useful when you add a Design System after some years and want to get your old designs work with your DS.

This other feature request also highlights an issue with the current "Highlight on canvas" functionality where components on hidden layers are being ignored. Especially when updating all instances of a deprecated component, I need the ability to be able to see every instance of that component currently in my project regardless of whether it's currently visible.

I'm a new user and was having this problem as well. I figured out a solution / workaround. Instead of clicking on 'highlight on canvas' click on 'edit master component' then Ctrl+3 to zoom in on it.
This will take you straight to the highlighted component.

highlight on canvas is nearly useless in large documents.

Currently, you can select a colour, character style or component and right-click > Highlight on Canvas. Wich will highlight with a blue border anything using those styles on the artboards.
This is very nice but not so useful, as you'll still have to manually edit or change one by one the objects you want to update.
It would be really nice if this highlight was an active selection, or that you could transform that highlight into an active selection, so the update process of an old artboard into a new design system isn't totally a manual process.
Thanks!

It would be fantastic to be able to highlight an asset on all artboards, as you can now, and then convert that highlight to a selection to be able to be edited, moved, deleted etc en masse.

To whom this may concern,
Hello,
I am one of the Adobe XD users and just have few questions regarding any planned updates for the functions of “highlight on canvas” function in the Assets Panel.
Currently on the artboard, it is clearly indicated where the function is on the Assets Panel, but for the large-scale projects, where many artboards are maintained, it is difficult to determine where exactly the component is highlighted, even when the function is used.
Also, during the execution of a large-scale project, it is difficult to determine where each personnel has used the canvas.
If I can suggest an updated version, it would be great if the “highlight on canvas” function works as similar to the “word finder” or “Find” function on chrome or on Microsoft Word, indicating the components on canvas clearly as possible, perhaps using the cursor to locate them after the “highlight on canvas” function is applied.
Please let me know if there are any plans for the update of the Asset Panel functions.
Best,Younkyo Jung

+, this feature needs improvements. Maybe it's something like Symbol Instance Locator, maybe better visualisation would be enough (bigger highlight mark for smaller zoom, dim all other areas of the canvas, etc).
It's hard to find a component on canvas when you have 20+ artboards (for FHD screen). Slow or impossible.

Agreed. A small blue outline is practically invisible in my largely blue designs. :)
As a stopgap solution perhaps let users customize the highlight color. I would go with hot pink or fluorescent green.
And/or dim all other areas of the canvas.
Another idea: make it a highlighter-style highlight rather than an outline, that can only get so small as you zoom out so you can always see it at any zoom level.

I agree, my colour in my assets panel is blue and the highlight on canvas is blue... it's like I need to have very good eyes to spot where these elements are....

This. Could we also get a feature that works like cmd/ctrl + F, so you can locate where the assets/character style/symbols etc more easily and effectively.
