Overlay positioning below "fold"

I would like to be able to position an overlay so that it is connected to a specific element regardless of whether that element is below the "fold". For tooltip, dropdown menus, and other interactive elements, overlays are awesome. However, in doing responsive design work for enterprise applications, there are many instances where a dropdown or tooltip will appear below the fold.

As of MAX of this year, we’ve enabled component states, which will give you the flexibility you need to be able to create flyouts, dropdowns, and other interactive elements that will be contextual to its placement on the artboard. Check it out on letsxd.com!

    For creating healthcare software UIs on a desktop, not everything can fit conveniently above the fold. This feature is NOT complete.

    It's definitely not the ideal solution, but it is possible to create overlays for things like tooltips and have them positioned where you want them to be below the fold. You need to read this page for specifics: https://letsxd.com/guides/component-states-common-use-cases

    That said, the better and more intuitive solution would be to use the prototyping workspace for handling below-the-fold objects the way it already does for those above-the-fold. The current approach feels exactly like what it is – an inelegant workaround.

    I can't believe this still is an issue! I don't understand why the heck the overlay should work only above the fold? I have seen so many cool features implemented during the last year, but it is ridiculous we can't make dropdown menu in footer (to name just one example).

    Nope! this wasn't fixed Elaine... Please sort this out, how are we to prototype realistically if we can't show overlays past the page fold??

    How do we contact these admins outside of this? they seem to mark things complete as they didn't understand the issue (or didn't want to fix it) and never revisit to check if the issue persists.

    This is not complete, I cannot put an overlay below the fold. I have to drag the viewport further down and looks really bad just to work around this issue. Why was this marked as complete?

    This is not complete - I am still not able to place overlays beyond the fold!! This is a basic requirement, please fix it

    This feature is not complete. Overlays exist, but the request is to be able to place them anywhere on a design, not just above the fold. Please revisit!

    Feature is not complete. Unfortunately, can't upvote this because Elaine locked it when she marked it complete. Please take another look at this request. This is crucial to being able to use the overlay feature.

    This is not complete, I've been using Adobe XD for about 3 months now. Every day I find new issues that are really affecting my day to day use of this programme, overlays, exporting to pdf, colour handling, full-width preview modes, embedded video. All really standard stuff that you would expect from UX software.

    And all these issues seem to be years old, what's that all about.

    I do not really want to move back to sketch but it's getting that way.

    You cant solve a broken feature by adding a different feature... Please fix overlays below the fold indstead of inventing something new.

    I would agree with the commenters that this feature is not complete. Allowing Overlays below the fold is a must.

    This should 100% be part of the Overlay functionality. As mentioned below, the complications of components start you have many elements with many states that function on different layers. I have a side nav within a main page that has 11 different overlays or art pieces associated with it and building 11 different components on top of each other only to have to turn them all on or off would take forever. Building them as separate art boards and using overlays would work PERFECTLY, but I cannot use an overlay below the fold. Seems silly.

    This isn't complete. Component states are awesome for sure... But, Overlays anywhere on the artboard seems like an easy ask.

    Imagine having a map with 15 clickable hotspots. Each hotspots allows a pop-up with more information. Now imagine having to create 15 states to account for each pop-up. No thanks.

    Overlays are much easier in this scenario, so I'd say this feature is not complete.
