Preview on device - no fonts?
What value is it displaying my design work on the xd mobile companion app without fonts? What can I do or will you be doing about this?
Fonts may not be transferred to your device due to any of the following reasons:
- The font is missing on desktop.
- Certain font vendors do not allow for the transfer, display, and distribution of their fonts.
- The font is not supported by Adobe XD on mobile (for example, PostScript type 1 fonts).
If you really want to see the fonts, a workaround is breaking them apart into vectors (converting to path).
Hope it helps.

@Chris Nuuja, excuse me, but all you say sounds like excuses, but ok, Adobe XD is a excellent software, but you not giving solutions, i have a question: Why Adobe XD don't export every screen as PNG including icons? or Why Adobe XD don't export every element as PNG including icons? show every (font) element as font is useless since screen is really static.

No, that "solution" doesn't help... This is useless when icon and fonts don't show up as designed.

We would love a solution to this problem.
I love the device preview for situations where you need to showcase it to somebody and doesn't need to have it attached with the cable. -

even though i would like to use the mobile app this problem is an app killer for me... but its always and option both on iphone and android to publish the app, and share the weblink via mail to yourself and the acces the link in your primary browser, from there you can ad a link to your startscreen, this works well for me... the only thing is that with this option it could be cool to have the option to ad my own app icon to the test app...

It's still not working and I just used Roboto for my app. That's really sad because Roboto is the standard font for Android. It should be possible to use it!

This is an important issue. Material Icons are useful as they are editable icons that can be contained within symbols (text based because font powered). Breaking them into vectors will make them not-editable in Repeat grid or Symbol.
I find mobile preview very useful, but if icons are not visible, there's no much use. Talk to Google, find other solution, make your own icon font much better than Google's one, help me help you making this font ... -

What about Material Icons? It takes a lot to import the svgs or to convert them.

Why not display design as images with hot clickable areas ?
XD is useless if designers can't see the typography they so have carefully chosen. -

Yup I have to agree. It's pretty much useless viewing on mobile if the fonts don't come through. I'm assuming Adobe will simply focus on USB tethering for windows - that should simply display what's on the desktop screen.
A workaround that Adobe could perhaps implement if fonts are a real issue, is to simply display the screens in XD mobile as images, so that way no font is actually being used in real time.

I'd agree with the guys here. Quite annoying because the adobe preview app that tethers with photoshop will simply display what is on screen which is exactly what we want in this scenario.

I am still having the same issue. I used Open Sans and it installed on my McBook Pro. But when I preview the App on a android device, it still giving the font missing error.
Is there any solution, how to fix this?

I used a particular font in XD and was able to view it on my phone. Now using the same font, I'm trying to view it on tablets and it comes up as missing. Why is it displaying on a phone and not a tablet and is this a problem I can fix?

This isn't really an acceptable situation for a designer - I want to see my designs rendered in the font I have chosen and i just want Adobe to make it do exactly that - that's not too much to ask is it?

Demian, can you or someone else from Adobe clearly outline what format fonts should be in to work with the XD app. Is it just opentype (truetype varient) and truetype?
Thanks

Elaine, what more info do you need?
With the November update the XD app is much better as it gives reasons for font failures now (which is helpful) but if the app is to be of use to designers it must show the prototype as it is on screen otherwise it's value is limited. If you consider that currently the app is plugged into one computer and being looked at literally in a previewing capacity, does this really constitute a breach of conditions for font usage. I would suggest this is a special case as it's not like the app is being locked up with those fonts for usage by anyone. Any further thoughts on this? Or perhaps Chris could you tell us more about postscript failiure if possible? I'm going to try and convert my fonts again now...

Licensing is exactly the reason why we are trying to demo the fonts in out prototype. The client must decide to pay and buy a Font licence or not. And the only way we can suggest the client that the best font is the one he must buy, is by using it in the prototype demo.
This is how this works everywere. So licensing is NOT a good reason to not allowing the installation of custom fonts on the device. If anything, is a good reason to allow it!
Please add this important feature, or XD will be seriously crippled as a designer tool. -

Jakub, we had some bugs with the SF fonts only on iOS10 that will be fixed in the next release. Some font data changed from iOS9 to iOS10 that we had to compensate for.
If anyone is having font trouble please list the specific font(s) you are using so we can download them and try them out.

Hey Chris, Thanks for your comments. I tried converting my typeface to Truetype but still the font didn't come through unfortunately. Having checked the fonts restrictions by exporting as a PDF in Illustrator, there are no overriding restrictions... If it can be embedded in a PDF well what could possible be stopping its trandfer? It's only one file - 66k - .ttf. Any other thoughts? Cheers J
