Ability to replace/update image files
I wish I had the ability to select an image and be able to update the file or change the image with out having to import another image if it is exactly the same size or I updated the design.

Please, please add this feature. It's so essential.

I am stunned that you still haven't added this, it's fundamental to ANY CREATIVE APPLICATION. And no, the drag-into-region trick doesn't always work - XD will only let you import PSDs, not drag them, so I have no way of replacing a placed PSD, period. Incredibly frustrating, this is SUCH a small request.

Please add this feature, it would save so much time. We need a quick and easy way to update images without having to re-import them every single time. Images change quite frequently in the mockup/design process.

Drag & drop over the existing image DOES NOT work. Saw multiple times mentioned here, need to give more insight. If the existing image is a masked portion of the original image, dropping the same image over it DOES NOT align with the existing one. You still have to manually play with all of the images. XD has incredibly great features, but having this one nonexisting has damages my respect to it.

Hope this helps - worked for me.
Adobe Staff response I received after posting for the same issue today, 8/1/2019:

Have you tried dragging another image over the shape? It should replace it as an image fill.1 person found this helpful
Unmark as Correct----------------------------------
InVision Studio provides a simple way of updating or replacing images as fills (no resizing or reimporting necessary). See attached screenshot below.
This rather fundamental action appears to be missing with XD and costing me valuable production time. Am I overlooking it?
Thanks in advance for any insight.

Yes, please! In a large agency setting, images are updated frequently. Having to reimport images every time they are updated slows us down and increases friction.
Thank you for all your hard work and frequent updates!

It works in Indesign, It works in Illustrator and even in Photoshop!
Why don't you allow to update an images in XD??
Look at my example. I've build set of banners in adobe XD (which is very handy)
Now i've updated an images. AND NOW I NEED TO UPDATE ALL MY 60 BANNERS BY HAND ONE BY ONE!
You must to add this feature ASAP! -

A menu command would be great, but drag n' drop does indeed work beautifully.

Just tried to drag a image file from finder and drop on top of the older one on xd and it replaced the image beautifully, maintaining size and proportions. I think it's a good workaround until we get a links window.

Anyone has a work around?
Do I really need to delete the object, draw a new one and place the new image?

☝️ This should behave similar to other Adobe software like Indesign whereby you can choose whether images are placed as linked files or embedded in the XD file. This would then allow a user to edit the image file and then update it without having to reposition it within the frame it's contained within (which is how XD currently behaves).

I'm being yelled at by my boss to switch to Sketch because Adobe XD is not capable of competing with them.

Definately! In the prototype phase we are constantly swapping out images. Would be of immense help to be able to do this: Change image > from file (external files).....or..... Change image > shape type (for images created within XD)

mhhhh... message from 2016 and only 54 votes :-). Just today I've started to use XD for a project. It should be a priority for constantly update contents from outer programs as Illustrator.
