Snap text box edges to edge of text
When using the Text Tool, it would be good if the edges of the automatically created text box snapped to the edges of the text. This would ensure distance between elements is calculated from the text itself, rather than the text box it sits within.
Since March release, double-clicking on the bottom resize handle of an area text will fit its height to match the content inside.

This isn't completed - it just snaps it back to the random default amount of padding every text box has - please mark as incomplete. The text box needs to snap to the text itself

Please re-open this request for votes, because the "feature completed" does not address this issue.

The feature is not completed — it is not what the OP is asking for, or what ANY of us have been asking for. We need the text box to fit exactly tight to the edge of the text for accurate positioning. Text boxes still have significant space between the actual text and the bounding area of the text box. We need that space eliminated, PLEASE!(Thank you, Micah, for your example. I apologize for borrowing your image, but I figured you wouldn't mind :-) )

"Masked Text" plugin lets you snap text to bounds of the text box both vertically and horizontally, it has been my lifesaver!

"Since March release, double-clicking on the bottom resize handle of an area text will fit its height to match the content inside." this is not working and its extremely frustraing, why is there extra sapce above and below text

This is not a completed feature. Auto-resize doesn't fix this: "This would ensure distance between elements is calculated from the text itself, rather than the text box it sits within." - it just resizes a textbox - the size and coordinates are still linked to the top left corner of a text box and not a text itself.

There are 19 extra pixels highlighted here and there's no way remove them.

Double-tapping does not do anything (at least in windows, again the goal is to align text edge to the container's edge or grid column; currently it aligns to the text box which has padding all around the text.

I have a bug related to this feature, but I don't know where to post it. I love this feature! And I use it all the time. But I've noticed an issue when I double click on a text handle to resize the height of a text box. It looks fine when viewing on my desktop. But when I view it through Device Preview on my iphone (connected via USB) the bottom line of text is not visible. I have to expand the text box again by a few pixels for it to reappear in the display on my device.
This is very frustrating because I like to be precise with my spacing between elements and if my text box has to be arbitrarily sized for viewing on my device it throws off all my spacing.

Terrific, I didn't know that! That said, can we get the same for horizontal?

XD 28 (March 2020) has just implemented the extend "bottom" of the textarea box to automatically match the text inside. Not width, but just height, useful for longer overrunning paragraphs. This works for both too short and too long boxes. The too short now has a "red" indicator (similar to InDesign)..

Or allow us to double click on the bottom-center boundary box dot to snap text box to bottom of text (the same way InDesign does.

I agree - being able to double click on the bottom-center, right-center, or bottom-left corner to auto-resize the text area box to the boundary of the copy inside the container (like InDesign does) would be incredibly helpful. Especially when it comes to measuring distance between page elements.

Make the text box works like Sketch.

Oh my god, it's so incredibly annoying having to adjust distances by hand every time a text changes. Please!

It would save us a lot of time while making wireframes and designs to ensure the spacing is always the name number of pixels between items of a same section.

Auto resize text boxes to fit the amount of text in the box. Currently I have to manually adjust the height of text boxes so I can can take consistent measurements, on big projects this can be time consuming.

While this might not be an ideal solution, my plugin "Text Toolbox" (available in the "Discover plugins" panel as well as on https://xdplugins.pabloklaschka.de) allows to automatically adjust a text area's height to fit its content with one click or a simple keyboard shortcut. I understand that this isn't exactly what you're asking for, but my plugin might serve as an intermediate solution (since it at least saves the hassle of manually adjusting the area's height every time).
Disclaimer: Since I'm the developer of the plugin, I might not be unbiased and this could be seen as an advertisement. However, I do not earn anything if you use any of my plugins (they are all free and there also isn't any other source of revenue), so I'm just putting this here since it seems related.
