InDesign is a far superior Tool than PhotoShop and Illustrator for Designing Layouts. I don't know why XD Works with PS and AI and not with INDD. Photoshop is for Photo Editing and Illustrator is for working with Vectors. InDesign is for All purpose Layout Design. Please have INDD integrate with XD. XD should ONLY work with INDD.

Please can you add this feature. We use INDD as our main platform for layouts for our digital designs. XD is great but its not as easy to work with text, asset changes, coloring assets etc. Some say INDD is not for digital design but this suit our purpose as a large studio having to share files with other studios and create multiple versions of one design with alternate layouts. Its the best for precise layouts and If we could open our INDD files iin XD with layers in place that would be the cherry on top.

This is exactly the kind of feature that has bloated the older Adobe programs. InDesign is not intended for digital design, and this is not the kind of stuff you should focus on for the future of a great program like XD. Consider this a down-vote.

Agree with others for ability to use InDesign as part of this workflow as well. InDesign is far superior as a layout tool.

Please create a workflow for InDesign and XD. InDesign is best tool for creating layouts, not Photoshop, but InDesign lacks ability to prototype interactivity. If you could add XD functionality to InDesign or vice versa, that would be very useful for designers.

Similar to the original poster: Embedding/linking XD artboards into a InDesign spec document is needed for our workflow.

(Currently solving this by exporting XD artboards to single page PDF files (to avoid reshuffling of pages), and then link to the PDF's.)

No real use case for export/copy from InDesign to XD here.

InDesign is light years ahead of XD. I would love to see full interaction with INDD. The reality of them actually achieving any of our request is just a fantasy, they can't give us guides.

FIRST PART of our workflow:
We use InDesign for creating our Screendesigns. No matter how fast Xd might be - it will never be as versatile as InDesign when it comes to Text-Editing, complex Layouts, Master Pages... Most importantly: We can directly place Indesign-Screendesigns into other indd Docs and it will update automatically when changing the designs (e.g. placing UI designs into marketing brochures, etc.) .
Therefore we will keep creating UI designs in Indesigns!

BUT for the SECOND PART of our workflow we would love to use Xd:
Until now we used ID interactivity features to create interactive flash clickdummies. And for creating UI-Flowcharts we placed our Screndesing-indd (original screen resolution) in another indd (with a bigger page size). Both is a versatile but very slow solution and I think Xd will do a much better job on this!

--> Therefore WE REALLY NEED a perfect ID-to-Xd-integration! We would love to place indd-files directly into Xd, keep them linked and update the links when ever our designs have changed in InDesign. <<--

This would be a tremendous help and overcome a hurdle that currently makes XD less attractive in our studio. In the past we have trialled making designs in Illustrator and exporting the artboards so they can be used in Marvel for prototyping, whilst placing the Illustrator boards in InDesign where annotations/specs can be typeset next to each. The InDesign file is automatically updated each time the Illustrator file is changed and re-saved. The Illustrator/Marvel/InDesign combo gave us artwork, prototype and specifications doc.

So, when can we expect this integration in XD?

I need to copy content like text from inDesign without the text being split up into separate letters. Need the option to superscript text and to do all caps.

Of course is very useful to copy and past from XD to ID

I agree with the OP on the need to place XD artboards into InDesign in order to write development specs. This would allow the designer(s) to maintain the functional prototype in XD and easily update the links in InDesign when there is a change.

I would like to see this as well. Before XD was open to the public, I was using Photoshop and Invision. This worked well for a while but as the more screens kept being created and constantly changing, the project was getting hard to manage. We had to create different deliverables for different departments. It was very time consuming.

Then I started to use Indesign to create my screens. This solved a few problems.
1. I didn't have to import from photoshop.
2. All the benefits of Indesign layout and library tools
3. Creating interaction and export to pdf
4. High resolution pdf export
5. Created template for deliverables
6. Used plugins to create specs

Well all of this was great, there was a few problems.
1. Creating additonal screens and interaction was cumbersome.
2. As more screens were created it got harder to manage
3. The more screens created, the slower Indesign became

Adobe XD solved the interaction and screen creation problems. I was able to design and test new screens fairly quickly and easily. The problems I ran into was when I have to export the file to deliver to the different departments.

Some benefits of Integrating the two.
1. I can open up an XD file in a prebuilt template I have for presentation.
2. Exported file will be clean because it being vector based (hopefully)
3. Creating specs using third party plugins in Indesign
4. Don't have to export then reimport multiple files into indesign and labeling the pages (very time consuming)

I am looking forward to this feature.

@joan - do you have any date for the release of this option? The copy paste partially work, for shapes, but the text blocks are either ignored or damaged. Thanks in advance for your answer :)

PLEASE INTEGRATE!! MANY DESIGNERS USE INDESIGN AND EXPORT FOR MANY INCLUDING FOR WEB!! I AM ADDICTED TO LEARNING MORE AND UTILIZING EACH PROGRAM TO FIT AND WORK WITH EACH OTHER EFFICIENTLY. PLEASE!!!

Just as the camera raw interface is to Photoshop, InDesign needs to be interfaced with Xd. There will always be sophisticated text formatting that Xd will not allow. I am inclined to do all of my text in InDesign and then export to png. Wouldn't it be great if I could update text from ID to Xd at any given moment?

Why can I not paste from indesign to Xd. Is this just because you have not built this out yet, Adobe/Joan? Thank you :)

Why not import .indd files into XD?

Or make XD a full indesign for web...
Big request for XD are guidelines, layers, column grids and character/paragraph styles...

Thank you for working on adding this option. It would be ideal if you could copy and past about anything. When you say vectors are you including thing like text boxes or is this specific to rectangles, circles and custom shapes?
