Auto Save (in case of system crash)
Auto save take away the worry of saving and losing data.
Hi everyone,
With XD versions 8 and 9 we’ve gradually released Auto-Recovery. This is a feature that restores files automatically in the event of an application or system crash. Auto-Recovery is enabled by default and available for both Windows 10 and Mac users.
How it works:
- While editing an XD file, Auto-Recovery runs in the background and stores the edits in a backup file at every 5 seconds. Every time you save the file, the backup is cleaned up from your disk, so there’s no impact on storage.
- In the event of an application or system crash, the backup file is used to restore the last unsaved edits to the original files.
- At next XD launch, the recovered file is available as a recent file in the Start screen or the “File” menu option.
- Recovered files can be identified by the “*” character added at the end of the document title.
- This feature has no impact on XD’s or your device’s speed and performance.
Auto-Recovery is not meant to substitute the workflow of manually saving the file. Continue to save your XD files frequently using the CMD / CTRL –> Save option.
Thank you for your patience and feedback! Update XD to the latest version and let us know if you experience any issues.
Best,
Dan

Local files as well. Why don't do it in the same way Indesign does, saving a temporary file in the same folder to restore in case of unexpected crash?

I believe this one is controversial. I personally would advise against using that as a default behavior. Not every option worth trying leads in the direction and I prefer those endeavors to be non-destructive.

I've experienced multiple times that the program stops responding and I lose all the work I just added to the project I was working on. An An "auto save" option would be very helpful in these kinds of situations!!

Both. personally always want to work off my personal drive. Also I like auto save, but dont like the way sketch does it. I still want the ability to save as, and keep versions the old fashioned way.

Both please. I would also like to add that for those who may not want things to auto-save that they have the option to turn off auto-save. They could turn it off for the cloud, or the could turn it off for local, or they could turn it off for both.

Today, while I was working the power went out unexpected. Luckily, all my other Adobe software recovered the files I was working on, except Experience Design. I guess it's probably not a very common issue, but today I would've appreciated if the software was saved and able to recover my temporary work. I find it kind of naturally when designing to get carried away in experimentations and save the good ones at the end of the day.

Please also auto save application settings. Not like Photoshop :-) Photoshop save only document, but your brushes, swatches, unit settings, panel setting, shortcuts, ... are lost in case of crash.

Autosave for local files as well. In rare occasions even my Mac has crashed in the middle of work. It also helps users in the event of a power outage. For example, here in India power outage is a common phenomena. Esp. now that summers are coming. While most offices have inverters/UPS installed, but sometimes they do betray.

Both. I'd love something that works with the Time Machine interface.

Auto save should work locally. Companies use different cloud services and not necessarily Creative Cloud and those folder are treated as local folder. Also sometimes the files are kept locally before the final version is released.
Pablo, i went through the same pain and i hope in time to come most of the software will adopt the auto save feature.

For local files as well. Autosave has destroyed my always-be-saving muscle memory. It's jarring (and sometimes momentarily terrifying) to remember that I haven't saved in a while.
