Organize assets panel objects (symbols/components/colors/character styles) into folders
Would love to organize symbols into folder for easy accessibility. I spend too much time looking through symbols into one library.
Dear XD Community -
I’m happy to share that as part of XD 44, we have delivered the long awaited assets organization feature 🎉. So now you can flexibly groups your assets to help you organize, navigate and find your assets much faster.
This feature will allow you to:
1. Create unlimited groups and sub-groups for all your assets
2. Easily move assets between groups by drag-n-drop or using the move dialog
3. Custom Reorder your groups
4. Publish linked libraries with groups
5. Sort your document assets panel by name
To learn more about this feature check: https://helpx.adobe.com/xd/help/work-with-assets-and-libraries-xd.html
Please give it a try and let us know what you think.
Thanks,
Sherif

This feature will do XD the big step for manage design system & components! Please do it as layers in Photoshop !

Please do something about this, now that everything is a component, it is a mess, and not to mention it affects the performance. Not everything should be component by the way. Since Hover can be added to components only, the number of unnecessary components has raised significantly and slows us down

Dear team,
being a person who likes to have his job very well organized I would love to be able to organize my artboards and components into different groups so that I can separate and look up to them much faster than I do now. Wouldn't it be nice if, for example, the wireframe artboards were in a different group than the High Fidelity ones; No need for extra files and wasted space. Personally I don't like having different files on one project and I think there are others like me!
I would appreciate it if you were thinking of upgrading the project organizing methods.
Thanks -

This is essential to manage a design system.

I often import sketch files that support folders for their components. And that leads to component chaos in XD where those folders are ignored.
Please add this little nice feature for a more professional way to organize Design Systems.

This is a big missing feature. I tried shifting fra Sketch to XD, but the lack of organizing my BIG designsystem is keeping me in Sketch for now.
Need ability to:
1. Organize/group character styles by usage, mobile, tablet, desktop into groups.
2. Organize/group Colors by gradients, brand colors, secondary colors, hover colors, light/dark theme, etc.
3. Organize/group components into groups or folders such as icons, desktop icons, logos, etc.I suggest you use same approach as Sketch, that works very well and can fit any need:
Let the user make his/her own folder structure, by naming font, colors, components etc. like this:Font: "Sans Serif/Heading/Large/Black/Left/Heading left"
Component: "Storyteaser/Mobile/Large/Storyteaser NoImage" -

I thought I was just a disorganized human. Tools to organize all of my graphic components would save me the same amount of time some design work takes.

Hey... simply unusable the asset/component library. Now needing to search one by one through hundreds of small icons randomly ordered to find everything. Worst of all, no simple "order by" option.
It's absolutely impossible to plan, even the most simpler "Atomic Design" scenario... definitively XD is not a productive tool, only a long way beta.

I agree with everyone here. Being able to organize/group/sort components would be extremely helpful as we share a design system across our organization.
Navigating through a hundred+ components in a seemingly random order is cumbersome and slows down the creation of mockups.
Please consider this for a future (hopefully near) update!!
Thanks!

The character style panel gets quickly cluttered. I think it would be better if you could group/parent styles. It can provide you a better focus on the things that matter at that moment.
I also miss the feature for text orientation (top middle bottom) within a text box. I'm not a developer, so maybe that is left out on purpose?

This should be a top priority, in my opinion. Please also fix the bug where all assets get reorganized in a chaotic order at random.

I have just ported 100s of design system components from Sketch to XD and I'm staring at a long list, which I'm not able to organise! This is not good and hopefully will be adressed in coming releases.

Completely agree -- disgusted that I just spent 20 minutes manually alphabetizing my assets, saved, reopened, and they're back in random order. How hard could it be to display them in alpha order by default? And yes, I want folders to organize by type.

The idea would be to be able to group components into folders and subfolders as the project grows. In my use case I've imported a sketch asset from an online site which has a ton of things turned into components, but there's no logical way to sort them or group them as they grow in to the > 1000 count. I'm refactoring it as we speak into something more manageable with master component dependencies, but it would be great if we could just drag and drop them into different folders for grouping.

Yeah this is really necessary. When working with larger clients, who have lots of brands you get tons of assets. In Photoshop you can sort assets by group. This would be nice in XD too.
There is another problem with assets: You can't have duplicates. So, lets say that one of the type styles on desktop matches with one of the styles on mobile, then I can't have both among my assets. And I don't want to keep separate assets libraries for Desktop and Mobile. Same goes with colors.
In my attached examples I'm showing a library that belongs to one of our clients. It's a huge oranization with lots of different brands, but with the same design language. I don't want to keep each brand as a separate library, but some of the brands share a few colors and all of them share the typography.
In Photoshop (screenshot) I can group assets in folders and organize them neatly however I want, but in XD (movie clip) I can't store all the assets due to duplicates and I can't organize them by anything other than assets categories, like colors, type and components.
Please keep working on this!

100%. In our use case, we have hundreds of pages designed and had to create a design kit (another XD file) where we can organize all the assets in different groups:
- Form elements
- Layout elements
- Alerts
- Notifications
- etcIf we could have this organization inside our assets, then we would simply have the assets linked to all of our designs, therefore, every time we either create a new component or update an existing one, reflecting the changes in all pages would be a matter of 1-click.

I'd like to:
1. Organize/group character styles by mobile, tablet, desktop into groups.
2. Organize/group Colors by gradients, brand colors, secondary colors, hover colors, light/dark theme, etc.
3. Organize/group components into groups or folders such as icons, desktop icons, logos, etc. -

This should be a priority for the devs, I have a huge project and I can't find anything right.
I need to organize by Desktop / Tablet / Mobile and then by Input field / Buttons / Sliders / Cards and so on.

Urgent in need for Assets Components to be able to create folders, or groups, so everyone can easily organize the assets and components and find things in XD.

When I sort the components in the assets menu manually, they jump back into (random?) position. Best would be to have the option to sort them in groups, too. If this is not possible, then at least sorting alphabetically would be better.
