Hi everyone,

With XD versions 8 and 9 we’ve gradually released Auto-Recovery. This is a feature that restores files automatically in the event of an application or system crash. Auto-Recovery is enabled by default and available for both Windows 10 and Mac users.

How it works:
- While editing an XD file, Auto-Recovery runs in the background and stores the edits in a backup file at every 5 seconds. Every time you save the file, the backup is cleaned up from your disk, so there’s no impact on storage.
- In the event of an application or system crash, the backup file is used to restore the last unsaved edits to the original files.
- At next XD launch, the recovered file is available as a recent file in the Start screen or the “File” menu option.
- Recovered files can be identified by the “*” character added at the end of the document title.
- This feature has no impact on XD’s or your device’s speed and performance.

Auto-Recovery is not meant to substitute the workflow of manually saving the file. Continue to save your XD files frequently using the CMD / CTRL –> Save option.

    Auto Recovery does not work. I see no files with an asterisk. I received an Error 49 when trying to save to my desktop. Lost many hours of work.

    There HAS TO BE A WAY TO TURN OFF AUTOSAVE. Just now I accidentally deleted everything in my file that has taken me weeks of work and of course that's when XD decided to autosave and I LOST EVERYTHING!
    I am totally freaking out right now.

    My windows crashed and I lost 6 hours of work. Sad. The file just doesn´t open anymore. It´s corrupted.

    XD cloud isn´t reliable. Not for me... I´ll work locally. Forever.

    I moved all my work from InVision to work with adobe XD. But now it deleted 3 full days of work. What do I do?

    I just lost 2 or 3 months worth of work. I view the prototype and design spec but can't edit anything. Both versions look like they're from a month ago. I'm going to have to rebuild but not with XD.

    Not working as intented. Just lost 2 days of work because of random crash and cloud save recovered two days old file. Preview link file is still showing all the work I have done. WTF! So i'll just spend my weekend fixing everything now, isn't that great!

    This feature doesn't work at all. The * file you talk about was totally empty and there was no trace of my entire day's work. Dude...Uncool.

    Yeah this doesn't work at all. Ive had multiple crashes with lost work, never once has auto recover/save / whatever ever worked. What do you guys do with our money? How are your products getting WORSE?

    Unfortunately, I accidentally deleted everything on my artboards. I then tried undo (CMD + Z) and nothing happened. 4 days of work gone. I can see/preview the file in cloud documents but I can't seem to download it. I was sitting on the fence with XD and Sketch! Guess where I'm going. So angry right now.

    I dont get it how you can develop a program like this and you dont think about having auto save or recovery. I wonder who is the person who made the ux of this program but wp. Bravo Adobe!

    It often crush when i open XD. not only XD auto-save, But it save file on cloud As default? Please give an option to turn off auto-save&save on cloud. please!

    Doesn't work properly. App crashed while I was away from the computer w/ no sign, no "*" file for the file I had been editing (but half of the other files in my recents do). 3 hours work gone.

    This doesn't work properly. There is no sign of the recovery file anywhere. That's a whole evening of work down the drain. G** D*** I*!!!
