Auto Save (in case of system crash)
Auto save take away the worry of saving and losing data.
Hi everyone,
With XD versions 8 and 9 we’ve gradually released Auto-Recovery. This is a feature that restores files automatically in the event of an application or system crash. Auto-Recovery is enabled by default and available for both Windows 10 and Mac users.
How it works:
- While editing an XD file, Auto-Recovery runs in the background and stores the edits in a backup file at every 5 seconds. Every time you save the file, the backup is cleaned up from your disk, so there’s no impact on storage.
- In the event of an application or system crash, the backup file is used to restore the last unsaved edits to the original files.
- At next XD launch, the recovered file is available as a recent file in the Start screen or the “File” menu option.
- Recovered files can be identified by the “*” character added at the end of the document title.
- This feature has no impact on XD’s or your device’s speed and performance.
Auto-Recovery is not meant to substitute the workflow of manually saving the file. Continue to save your XD files frequently using the CMD / CTRL –> Save option.
Thank you for your patience and feedback! Update XD to the latest version and let us know if you experience any issues.
Best,
Dan

Please people, include in the software Auto Save or backup option. Its been a while I have been losing my work because there is no auto save or backup option. I do not usually close XD during workday and at the end of the day I save files and keep the updates I have made to files during the day. But sometimes windows somehow automatically restarts as a result I loose important updates I make. I have to redo everything from the beginning. Please, include auto save or backup option so that we could restore our files in some unexpected restarts or etc.

Lost 2 hours. I've started to use "Announce time every half an hour" MacOSX native clock feature - in Norwegian language, which I do not understand. So, for me, Norwegian time annunciation will mean only one thing: "Save your file and cheer Adobe to complete the feature!". It's also easy to turn on and off.

I will pause every 30 minutes to curse you for not warning us about this during my upcoming all-nighter to make up for the work lost. No UI tip, no warning banner, just leaving out a hugely critical feature expected by default in 2017. Brilliant strategy for turning off early adopters!

Can it recover the file in its latest state instead of autosaving?

Application sometimes crashes and that means some work will be lost. Today it was an hour na a half because I forgot to save.

This isn't a thing because they don't have any form of version control for Adobe CC right now. Imagine you have two people working on the same file with auto save, it would be constantly colliding and would probably become corrupt. Once they release the version history feature, they might not need auto save.

Agreed. Weird that this doesn't have more votes. My Macbook just randomly restarted (I thought this wasn't supposed to happen to Macs?) and I just lost an hour's worth of work... multiple artboards, etc.
OS aside, this definitely could have been prevented with auto-save.
Ideally, this would be accompanied by some kind of internal version history — maybe in a way similar to how Simplenote handles this. (A slider by which you can visually navigate the history of changes.)

Why not trying to prevent crash instead of autosave ? Autosave is a hack !

Well, this is a no brainer. But I still feel like a idiot for not saving my work...

O Adobe XD travou no Mac Book quando estava finalizando o projeto. A única alternativa era reiniciar o programa e acabei perdendo tudo o que tinha feito. Nem chegou a fazer uma recuperação como o Photoshop ou Illustrator.
