Hi everyone,

With XD versions 8 and 9 we’ve gradually released Auto-Recovery. This is a feature that restores files automatically in the event of an application or system crash. Auto-Recovery is enabled by default and available for both Windows 10 and Mac users.

How it works:
- While editing an XD file, Auto-Recovery runs in the background and stores the edits in a backup file at every 5 seconds. Every time you save the file, the backup is cleaned up from your disk, so there’s no impact on storage.
- In the event of an application or system crash, the backup file is used to restore the last unsaved edits to the original files.
- At next XD launch, the recovered file is available as a recent file in the Start screen or the “File” menu option.
- Recovered files can be identified by the “*” character added at the end of the document title.
- This feature has no impact on XD’s or your device’s speed and performance.

Auto-Recovery is not meant to substitute the workflow of manually saving the file. Continue to save your XD files frequently using the CMD / CTRL –> Save option.

    In full flow and thinking, I like this, then boom, bugged out and few hrs lost!

    AutoSave does not work as expected
    It is not the first time I spend a few hours working in the program, in the process using the keyboard shortcut ctrl+s. Then suddenly the program stops reacting to my actions, I close the project, open it again, and there is an old version !!! How is this possible!!!?

    Completely ridiculous that this isn't a feature. Time to go back to Sketch...

    Third hour of using Adobe XD, it crashes and takes out the last couple hours work... Even Photoshop has autosave. I didn't consider that a new app in 2017/2018, from a big company like Adobe, would be released without any autosave or recovery feature.

    I waited until after the beta specifically to avoid this kind of buggy incomplete experience. I don't think there is any other program or game that i own/use where i have needed to remember to 'save often' since many years.

    Please keep working on this! I regularly lose work because it crashes. I shouldn't have to have a timer running to remind myself every 5 minutes to save.

    Obviously this isn't a priority as comments go back over two years and the response itself is a year old. Maybe it's complicated - but I very much doubt it's over 2 years complicated.

    I worked a lot of 2 hours and when I press Ctrl+s for saving my work program is automaticly closed without saving. It's very bad for commercial product. I wanted buy the program for my work, but programm work wrong and haven't many functions.

    I was saving often, or so I thought, but there was some kind of bug (which I reported on the bug thread) and none of my changes were saved. I lost hours and hours of work. It would be great if there was some kind of temp files backup/recovery option for these situations.

    I have just lost one hour work as Adobe XD crashed and closed without saving the file. I wanted to export an image with navigating to specific folder in my Mac, as soon as I clicked the navigating button, it crashed. Please, fix this bug and implement this feature for better user experience and productivity.

    Please make sure autosave works properly. Lost many hours of work on several occasions, and had to redo.

    Shocker... just lost 2 hours complex work. This has potential to be a great product but the developers assigned this app to develop are obviously sub standard. It's a shame that ADOBE don't concentrate on this app as much as they do on Photoshop and Illustrator.
