Auto Save (in case of system crash)
Auto save take away the worry of saving and losing data.
Hi everyone,
With XD versions 8 and 9 we’ve gradually released Auto-Recovery. This is a feature that restores files automatically in the event of an application or system crash. Auto-Recovery is enabled by default and available for both Windows 10 and Mac users.
How it works:
- While editing an XD file, Auto-Recovery runs in the background and stores the edits in a backup file at every 5 seconds. Every time you save the file, the backup is cleaned up from your disk, so there’s no impact on storage.
- In the event of an application or system crash, the backup file is used to restore the last unsaved edits to the original files.
- At next XD launch, the recovered file is available as a recent file in the Start screen or the “File” menu option.
- Recovered files can be identified by the “*” character added at the end of the document title.
- This feature has no impact on XD’s or your device’s speed and performance.
Auto-Recovery is not meant to substitute the workflow of manually saving the file. Continue to save your XD files frequently using the CMD / CTRL –> Save option.
Thank you for your patience and feedback! Update XD to the latest version and let us know if you experience any issues.
Best,
Dan

What in the world? I really think this app is a great idea. However, I think you jumped the gun on putting it out there. It was working well for 2 days in windows PC. Now, I can't get it to stay open! It immediate crashes after loading. All the work I put in is lost! I understand how auto save may be complicated but hey - my work isn't so easy either.

For local files as well. Autosave has destroyed my always-be-saving muscle memory. It's jarring (and sometimes momentarily terrifying) to remember that I haven't saved in a while. -

I just lost half a day's worth of work. Unreal that this is still not implemented. Saving often is just not the answer if you have a power cut or unexpected crash, and especially so if you are working in any modern software that has autosave, which is most of them!

Crash and lost a full day's worth of work. No crash recovery, no autosave, this is not professional software : (

I just lost 4 hours of wireframing work because I thought there was an auto-save feature. There is in most design apps I use. I'm really gutted now.

I think it would be more useful if ‘auto save’ becomes a setting. Some people want it, some don’t. I don’t!
I’m very glad I have a good backup system, because I was working in a file, making it ready for the next version, saved the new version, but my previous version was auto saved, so the drawings in the old version were gone …
So if auto save becomes a setting, everybody can choose how to use it? -

I just lost days (seriously, days) worth of work to this issue when my Mac failed to wake up from sleep.
I spend most of my working time on a computer, and this is the first time I have lost significant unsaved work to a system crash in many, many years.
I get that it's a difficult feature to implement, but in the meantime, please add something to the UI to remind users to save! It shouldn't be possible for me to go days and days without saving. These days, apps tend to autosave things. It's an assumption.
There are plenty of things this application could do to remind users to save. Please improve this!

Just lost two hours of work after an unexpected reboot while I was away from my Windows 10 PC. This is not the first time I've lost work due to the lack of a basic auto-save feature. This feature request is two years old! What gives?!

Is it that hard to write a For loop for each min the application is open and save it every minute or so? Just as a quickfix until you find out a better way to do it???????

Just lost 2.5 hours of work thanks to no auto-recovery after a power outage.
It is unbelievable that this is not a feature. Massive failure by Adobe.

Please fix this. I've lost too many hours of work because of a sudden Adobe XD crash. I'm seriously contemplating whether I want to continue using it if this doesnt get fixed soon.
1. Autosave to recover after a crash. Adobe XD crashes way too often not to have this safety feature.
2. 'You've got unsaved changes' message when closing. Right now it just closes. No warning, no auto-save, nothing. -

Admin, please explain why autosave is complicated to implement. What is so difficult about invoking your own save feature (which even has the comment keyboard shortcut of Ctrl+S which had to be written in code) every so many minutes, and having a toggle switch that enables/disables this feature in the menu?
True, we can just get into the old habit of removing ourselves from our creative workflow and reminding ourselves to save, but modern applications have removed this habit from muscle memory. Let's not step backwards please :)
