Image cropping / repositioning within shape mask (after dragging bitmap into a shape)

Provide the ability to reposition/move images within masks.

If you make a mask via Object > Mask With Shape, then you can double-click into it to reposition the image (or other content) within the mask.

However, if you drag an image file onto a shape, it gets masked by the shape and you CANNOT reposition the image or adjust the cropping. It is auto-cropped to fill the shape when you resize it, but you don't currently get full control of the cropping.

Hi there,

We understand just how frustrating this is when working with images that can’t be repositioned, and have begun to work on this feature. We can’t wait to get it in your hands soon!

Cheers,
Hoyle

As of now if you drag an image from Finder to a vector object in Adobe XD, it becomes the fill of the object. Moving forward, we plan to change this behavior, so that you could edit the mask and the image(s)/object(s) masked.

Hey guys, I got it working.

Not sure if anyone has already put up how to do it, but long-story short:
    - If you click on the image with the select tool (V), and then press enter on the keyboard, you can re-position and re-size the image within the shape mask.

    Hope this helps someone (y)

Now I can edit the image that is masked (after importing an image) but I can't edit the mask. I just can change the size of the mask proportional (but the image changes it's size too!!! Thats bad) but not umproportional. If I do this (click on the lock) the image will gets deformed. So this feature is not completed!

What is the reasoning? Dragging an image into a shape creates a mask, just the same as selecting the image and the shape and going to object > make mask... only it is 10 times faster to drag and drop... so why does the image editing (rotating) have different properties... why have different rules for doing the exact same thing 2 different ways??

Figured it out. You have to select both the image and the shape that you've created then Mask with Shape.

Seems to be sorted to me (version 9.1.12.3). There's no hard-cropping for any masking done via either method of masking. I have drag/dropped images onto parts of a Repeat Grid and each image is shown in full, and only masked by the outer shape. Seems done to me!

I found it out: If I drag and drop an image on the artbooard I can't change the proportions and I can't adjust "fixed position". I first have to draw a container/mask and than drag the image in. Than it works. @adobe: Please make it also work for directly dragged and dropped images!

After the June 2018 Version it's possible to reposition the image inside the mask/container, but I didn't found a way to change the proportions of the container/mask without deforming the image!
@adobe: Where is a support-page where I can get an answer to this or other questions? Thanks!

Hi folks...deal breaker. Imagine inDesign without the ability to reposition images in a box. I started a project in XD and have moved right back to Photoshop. Here's to hoping for future versions, because XD is a good idea!

The way that Figma lets you crop an image is lightyears ahead of XD. This is one of the biggest pain points when switching off between the two programs.

It's amazing or rather embarrassing for Adobe how XD is trying to copy Invision Studio and doing such a poor copy job.

Why is this taking TWO YEARS + to add such a simple feature that is available in ALL other Adobe products?
