Linked Character Styles and Colors across documents

I really liked the new October 2018 update where you have Linked Symbols across multiple files, especially when you made a source file.

I would like to also have this ability for character styles as I have many websites that all need to share the same UI style guide. I often change my mind about the font size, colour, line spacing and etc.

If I had this, then making a source file that links with multiple design files will make life so much easier to manage. Without having to go to each file and update...

Hi Everyone!

With XD May release, now you could create a single source of truth for all your colors, character styles, and components in an XD cloud document and reuse all your assets in your XD documents.

With the linked assets feature, you can easily share and consume not only components — or what was formerly known as symbols — but colors and character styles as well. This is incredibly handy if you are sharing sticker sheet with your team or reuse design elements across projects.

Linked Assets complement the workflow of linked components. When you modify a linked asset in the source document, all the consuming documents with those linked assets receive update notifications. From there, you can choose preview and accept the updates.

    Please we need to be able to do this without using the Cloud, the usefulness of which is limited by network issues outside Adobe control.

    Ideally copy and pasting font into new document would keep the character style and link to master document.

    I agree with Bryce and Vnz — I am working offline (for security reasons / company policy), so all of my files are local and cannot be uploaded to Adobe Cloud.

    No it's not completed in my point of view. We need to link to local files as we are a team of 5 webdesigners sharing files through file versionning (GIT). We don't want your cloud sharing system !

    Please change the status of this request !!

    As I understand it, this feature requires linking through Adobe Cloud. For my team, this is useless because our firewalls limit that access.

    If I can automagically update components, styles and colors through a source doc, there is no technical reason why I could not do it as easily when that doc is a shared network drive. Is this artificial limitation driven by a marketing purpose?

    In any case, it seems false to claim that this feature is fully implemented until the Cloud limitation is removed.

    Half of our Design team are using Sketch and the other XD because of the lack of better asset management. Once this feature is added our Sketch designers will transition over onto XD as it does the rest better.

    Sharing assets through the Symbol artefacts is great and really useful when working with remote projects or teams.

    One huge disadvantage now is not being able to only share half of your assets. Colour and Typography need a shareable state so you only need one master document that is shared between teams and projects. Please add these features to make these documents act as fully functioning style guides.

    Would be great if the source document could be used as Styleguide. I can already use linked symbols throughout various XD-files, which is a great feature, and I would love to use this feature also for character formats and colors.

    I agree with the other comments posted here. Global styles, color palettes, and symbols would be a great way to carry branding across multiple designs.

    Being able to carry over saved colour palettes and character styles to new documents would be very useful.

    If we want to make a completely Design System, We have to take controls of the colors and Character styles, link all styles with one master page how Material Design Google plugin in other software can. It´s an idea and this can convert a single page in a powerful design central.

    Another idea to create a UI Style Guide as a source file for multiple projects. Change the master form styling and it updates all.
