PDF Export - compression options to reduce file size
Exported PDF are too big. Please add compression options like InDesign.
As of XD version 26, exported PDF file size is down by up to 90%, while retaining the current quality level.
Thank you for all your feedback!

My 8 pages project exported as PDF is 1,526,177 KB. It's impossible to compress or optimize. kinda useless feature at this point.

PLEASE can the PDF export have a compression option like the other adobe programs.
It is such a faff having to save boards as jpgs to then add into place into a pdf in order to email designs.

I noticed that this issue has been on wish lists of many users around the globe. First request dated almost 3 years ago! So, is it still pending? So please, Adobe, make this item for smaller PDF-export urgent now!

It would be great if it wil be possible to modify and/or generate pdf’s in XD, so that these files will be exported in smaller and more reasonable sizes. Just like it can be done in Indesign (Archive > Export >...). Use of Adobe Distiller should be unnecessary. That`s soooo 2019 ;-)

Yes. Please give us the same PDF export settings as the other Adobe apps. I use the High Quality Print setting, and it would be great to have that same drop down menu in the PDF export window.

I've been trying for days to reduce the PDF file size using other methods and none of them work.
I can use Acrobat Pro to optimize the file but it doesn't change the file size

A lot of developers asked me send PDF to them and they said when they open PDF in the illustrator the documents were messy. And they prefer I use Sketch to export PDF. I suggest XD team must take serious about this issue. A lot of developers use illustrator to get the assets from PDF but obviously the PDF exported by XD is not only huge but also generates extra masks as well as texts are broken.

Solved! I turned my PDF from 196mb to 2.9mb, no issues, read below, it'll take you guys a few minutes.
1. Save as PDF in XD
2. Open PDF in Acrobat, click Save As Postscript (.ps). (DON'T click reduce file size, it may cause text issues, mine did with this option)
3. Now open the postscript file into Adobe Distiller, choose settings smallest file size (for web, not explored other options as of yet).
4. It will compress it, shouldn’t take more than a minute. Job done! My PDF went from 196mb to 2.9mb. It took 16 seconds.

As far as i can see... its because the images in the created pdf are large in pixel size but still 72dpi, and all pdf compression options in acrobat are for lowering dpi to reduce file size...
Don't export to pdf, export to images then turn those into a pdf.
If your like me and the only reason you use this feature is for quick client preview, export to pdf is mostly broken and you need to use this work around.
i hope i am missing something, but this seems to be the case.

Yes, having PDF Presets would help. We have some particular settings we use for posting PDFs to project folders on our server. It would be great to do so with XD files.

Please add a compression feature or enable third party PDF compression. Neither online tools or local Mac software (NXPowerLite Desktop) can compress these XD created PDFs.
I'm ending up with 600MB for a bunch of UI design templates, it's ridiculous. Please escalate this feature!

Please change this Adobe, really not great for Workflow- we may as well all keep using indesign/illustrator and photoshop if we have to export back through one of these anyway :-( ?

Please escalate this feature. It's bad enough that PDFs aren't compressed to begin with, but why on earth can't I reduce the files size in Acrobat??
