Sorry for the false alarm! Someone pointed out to me that I interpreted the request incorrectly. While you can now select objects both in the artboard and on the pasteboard, you cannot yet select objects on the pasteboard and complete artboards themselves.

This was highly debated and designers are split on whether they want this or not. We may provide a preference in the future.

Required to use XD for a single project I am currently on with an agency and I cannot believe that in 2021, five years after this post was created, I am writing this comment, among others. Please fix this. It is putting a massive strain on trying to just... design anything. It's crippling.
There is a reason the other apps do revert back to the selection tool.

This is like one of those weird dreams where everything is f*cked and then you wake up and are uncertain and suddenly a huge wave of relief. Unfortunately I am awake, and can't select all on the canvas (which I need to do because it's a fixed size and not infinite - what a joke).
