Keep in mind that "Paste Appearance" doesn't just paste background images. It pastes whatever you copy into your clipboard. For instance, you can paste the appearance of a symbol which will paste the color, the stroke, the rounded corners, shadows and any other attributes that item had. Pasting background images is just one attribute it pastes and not all attributes are pasted 'into" the object; some attributes are pasted around the object.

Yep. zooming out to create another guide is not 'user-friendly'. I just want to hold down a key and drag another guide line out.
