We think you’re going to really, really dig the plugin integrations we’re making available later this year :)

yes--anything symbolic would be helpful, so a reused asset or group of assets could be changed once

fwiw, i intuitively expect anything i paste to be a child of the element currently selected.
i also expect pasted things to land relative to either the Artboard or currently selected element.
Paste Into and Paste In Place or similar might help.i still have trouble selecting hierarchically (click, double click, cursor on the wrong pixel kind of thing, how do i get to that element?) too; so, group/parent/hierarchy clarity in general might benefit from some polish.

Can you tell us more about how you’d like this to work? Do you want XD to export image assets and insert them directly into the correct folders/filenames in an existing Xcode project? Or do you want XD to generate Objective-C / Swift code to create a brand new Xcode project?

might look at sympli.io, their Android Studio and Xcode plugins
I find it cumbersome to use external tools to create or edit text data then drag, maneuver, and drop it on a Repeat Grid. Editing each element individually has drawbacks as well.
Say I need a series of headings, and copy blocks and so on--this requires multiple external list files with content sequenced to correlate properly.
I long for lightweight plain text or even spreadsheet editing inside XD.
