This. Please let me turn off A = artboard tool... I literally never need to make an empty artboard using that tool, 100% of the time I hit "A" it's expecting a direct-selection tool as in all the other Adobe apps I've used for the last 25+ years.

Note: there’s a limited version of this feature already available. If you select an existing piece of text and then leave it selected while you use the Text tool to create new text, its style will match the piece of text you had selected.

And for font size... and for kerning and letter spacing... pretty much need keyboard shortcuts to drive all type attributes.

I'd sum up my critique of XD's Layer panel as having none of the necessity of Photoshop (because XD's direct selection on the canvas works so well) and none of the utility of Illustrator (arbitrary 'layers' used for grouping/locking/hiding things hierarchically like background, vs content, vs huds/floating elements, vs a layer for notation). As it is, I've found the layer panel in XD not at all even remotely useful.
