Hi, everyone! In the August release of Adobe XD, we’ve introduced the ability to consume colors and character styles from your existing Creative Cloud library. We’re working on bringing you the ability to bring in graphics (both bitmaps and vectors) as well, so we’re keeping this feature open until we get that out the door.
In the meantime, if you have feedback on what we’ve already released, please do file a new idea so that we can get community feedback on it.
If you haven’t seen the update yet, launch the Creative Cloud desktop application, click on the gear icon, and select “Check for App Updates.”
Have you tested this with any designers? Did the majority of them say 'yeah go with the separate window, that would be the most efficient approach'?
Sketch does this pretty well actually, they make the tool selector available, then change the UI based on the tool you have selected so you have access to the most popular controls. It also gives you quick access to the appropriate styles when you select an object.
It's not a priority, since it will be a while before a considerable number of people have the touchbar, but it is still something to consider.

We’re working on a visual versioning system for XD documents. You could see a preview here: https://youtu.be/pf35qphKOWE?t=1h7m51s
Sketch for example uses the mac's native versioning system. You can go to File > Revert to and you get a list of all previous saves / autosaves.
You wouldn't need to build the system yourself.

This is not the simplest thing, and it would be hard to get right, but I still think it's something to consider for the future:
Let users move panels around, like other Adobe apps allow.
Personally I prefer to have all my panels on the right side so that I can access my tools on the right and my artboard on the left. Every user has different needs and preferences and giving us the control to move things around and be our most efficient would be appreciated.
Not to mention, since you are in control of the design now, you cannot take into account every screen size. A lot of space is wasted on larger screens.
