Lack of collision detection in new responsive feature (Version 184.108.40.206)
My text containers collide and overlap with images and other elements, so they overlap each other. This is not how the browser works because it should be done based on a grid. Is there a way around this? most of my designs would not be able to use this feature, or I just need to understand more how this feature works
Hi @Daniel Vianna,
Thank you for your feedback. XD 12.0 is the first release for Responsive Resize, but we do plan to enhance this feature in future releases.
Currently, responsive resize is only supported on the design side in XD. We know collisions can occur in this release, but you may be able reduce/avoid them by grouping elements together. Otherwise a workaround for a collision would be to reposition the colliding elements manually after resizing.
Stay tuned for further updates to Responsive Resize in future versions of XD.
I forgot to mention the other option is to disable Responsive Resize while dragging. This can be done on each container individually and permanently in the PI. Or you can disable temporarily by holding down the Shift key while dragging.
Responsive Resize uses a heuristic to try to determine the desired constraints fro all page elements, but this is just a starting point. Auto-constraints are not always correct so they can be manually overridden.
Your Text fields are colliding because the width is constrained to stay the same during resize. You can change this by select one of the Text fields, then in the Responsive Resize section of the PI, change from "Auto" to "Manual". Then turn off the Width constraint. Repeat for other Text fields.
Now when you reduce width of your Group or Artboard, those Text fields will scale and reduce or eliminate collisions.
Hope this helps,
