Label/rename and organize/reorder symbol library
As title! I'm sure this will come into play as part of https://adobexd.uservoice.com/forums/353007-adobe-xd-feature-requests/suggestions/12931467-reusable-symbols-master-objects
but I just wanted to make sure it was out there.
Partial completion — Label/rename done, organize/reorder engineering effort in process.

Is the plan to eventually replicate Illustrator's Library feature? I just noticed today that you can now group assets however you want in Illustrator. This is great! If you have a ton of assets/UI elements (which I imagine most brands do) not being able to organize them is tough. I've only really been using library colors because of this. In short, Illustrator-style grouping would be the best!

What's the status on the symbol organization? And will there be a feature in the future where we can change the color/status of an icon without needing two separate icons?

it's hard to find a symbol in a list. it should be listed in alphabetical order. or sorting option would be great!!!

@Anonymous: organization is an available feature already. You can drag & drop to reorder symbols in the list view.
Make sure you are looking at the list view though, as you cannot drag to reorder in the tile/grid view. There's a toggle in the upper-right of the panel.

When can we expect the organization part to be implemented? An unordered list of symbols is a giant pain in the ass for many of us who design with systems.

What if we can order the symbols in alphabetic order. Not the date created?

I would like to make an addition to this feature that should prove very helpful when designing applications: Oftentimes, I find myself wanting to use a symbol, but change minor aspects depending on the context I use it in. For example, an Icon is grey in one context, but blue in another. It would be helpful, if symbols had reusable variants. Currently, to achieve this, I have to create several symbols for the same icon. Another approach would be to define constant and varying attributes of a symbol. This way, I could change the color of an icon or the length of an input field without altering the symbol itself.

Yeh without reordering/sorting this is still useless

Vote for this feature if you agree that you should be able to copy/paste symbols between XD files without the symbol being duplicated if it already exists in the new file.

I was excited to test this new feature, and am left disappointed. The real thing I was looking for was the ability to paste symbols between documents and not have it create a new symbol. I had hoped that by naming them, it might be able to detect that two symbols are the same, and let me choose which version I want to use (or possibly have the option to add a new one). But as it is, it just adds a new one with the same name. I hope that your solution for this is not to rely on the CC Library, because my company (and many other large enterprises) blocks our use of the cloud.
As it is, symbols just add useless bloat to my files because every time I copy an artboard from one file to another, it creates a new instance of all the symbols on that artboard. Cleanup is futile, because these symbols keep getting duplicated. Working with a team on a large project, it's just not practical to do all of our work in one file, so copy/pasting artboards and design elements between files is a crucial part of our workflow.
In the meantime, if we at least had the ability to select multiple symbols and do a "Highlight on Canvas" for all of them at the same time, it would speed up my cleanup process. But as it is, I just don't have the time to clean up what will just become a mess again, so I have no reason to use symbols at all.

No alphabetical order in the symbol assets!

I just got a thought about symbol naming in assests, googled and ended up here. This is a cool idea. Please adobe integrate this feature asap in your upcoming updates. That way we can organize huge number of symbols. Right now symbol in assets has small thumbnail. Hardtime figuring out the symbol until I drag and drop the symbol in artboard and see zoomed version. But who needs symbol zoom when you can rename and group each and every symbol like on screen shot given above. Nice Idea!

This one is really important. I want to be able to communicate to developers which UI components (symbols) e.g. table row. are used on a specific page. I would like to be able to assign each one a unique name or numerical code so I can reference that in documentation.

How does this feature not have more votes?! It's essential.

The current symbol system is barely usable for collaborating, especially for a larger design system.
