Bitmap Editing: basic image filters (hue, saturation, brightness/levels)
the ability to apply image filters and treatments such as "hue, saturation, levels, etc".

The XD could have a panel for minor adjustments to images without compromising the image definitively. It could be like an extension of Photoshop or Lightroom adjustments.

I know it isn't part of your strategy but could you please include some basic image edition in XD. I would like to be able to play with the saturation, brightness and contrast without having to load it in Photoshop which takes too much time.

ALSO, add a magic wand tool!

Figma has a very nice basic photo editing suit built in. Exposure, Brightness & Contrast. Saves time when creating prototypes. Xd prides itself on speed (its the best for that) however this image dealing is terrible. Having to go into photoshop just to add a little more exposure is very bad.

Will, THANK. YOU. FINALLY! A viable solution.

Will mentioned a pretty cool trick by setting the blend mode of the image to luminosity. And it's much appreciated. But it's kind of a hack to get this to work and a far cry from an actual filter.
Even Apple's Keynote has this feature. I'm surprised it isn't in XD yet.

If anyone's still following this thread, you can desaturate an image now.
1: Make sure the image background is black.
2: Under the 'Appearance' menu, select the Luminosity layer effect. -

It think it would be essential to introduce simple filters like saturation, brightness, grayscale. Even CSS has that!

There must be image edit option to photoshop and updated in Xd as smart editing instead of first edit in photoshop and then save then replace or import. There must be an smart linking between xd and photoshop to solve the image editing problem.

Option to apply some filters on Images that we import, like convert to Black & White and maybe few other basic settings. Every time going to Photoshop takes away lot of time.
Hope this will be considered soon.

Adding to the conversation: here is a prototype for how Quick Image Adjustments might work in XD https://xd.adobe.com/view/7baaf06a-d00c-4312-4056-2ebd356c33c5-0d9b/
