I've been designing UIs since literally just yesterday, and already I've found a simple thing XD can't do... fix it, y'all.

This is very basic CSS functionality that's used a lot. It would be especially useful when sharing for development, because it will match what the developer should actually do. Instead of using a workaround of drawing a line, then trying to align it correctly.

I thought I had made a reusable horizontal navigation menu using content aware and stacks. But I can't include a line for the active state and have it resize correctly based on the length of the text. Content aware doesn't recognize the line, and I can't use a rectangle because I can't apply a border to only one side of it. It's so sad to see amazing features like content aware and stacks not be useful because of something as simple as applying a border to one side of a rectangle, which I've been doing in CSS for years.

It would be also great, to give any rectangle spacing indications. Like 20px on top and 40px on bottom. This way I don't have to waste time to align everything and check 10 times whether I have the right spacings on every page... hope this takes not another 4 more years...

I'm new to XD, but sounds like I'm late to the game on lobbying for this feature.

For what it's worth, the reason I need this feature is I'd like to be able to SIMPLY mockup prototypes and UI interactions involving input elements, however, I'd like to apply a very common design pattern of using underlines for the inputs.

Since I can't create a rectangle with just a bottom border, I can't just create a simple interaction by dragging from my input to the next view. I now have to create a dummy rectangle with no border or fill (which makes it hard to select, position, etc.) and link my interaction to this dummy object. It's a serious pain in the ass.

If there's a workaround to this, I'd love to know.

Hello, Adobe are you alive? Web and app designers need simple features like this to do their job. Not some fancy 3D transitions that nobody asked for! Geeez.

Axure has been doing this for 15 years!

I started as a developer but do more design work now, and I was shocked to see that applying a border/stroke to one side of a rectangle isn't something that I can do in XD. This is something that I used all the time as a developer.

4 years and this still hasn't been considered?

Adobe, as you know many of your users are using XD to create layouts and experiences for web-based products like websites and weapps. Creating a single-sided border is probably the most generic and basic web functionality that there is. Please fix this ASAP. It is unbelievable that this basic feature has not been implemented yet after so many years since the original request. What do you think is more - the number of clients who would want to use some complicated feature or the number of clients who would love to set their right-hand borders to grey while still having the ability to define a shadow on that same rectangle?

@Adobe can you update us on this request? Are you seeing it? Are you considering it? Is it in your backlog? Is it in development?

Adobe XD 32.0 just released and included keyboard shortcut improvements for toggling between Design/Prototype/Share - a request originally completed in the April 2016 release: https://adobexd.uservoice.com/forums/353007-adobe-xd-feature-requests/suggestions/13090818-keyboard-shortcut-to-switch-between-design-and-pro. This request has had no movement, yet it has 600 times the votes (1200 compared to 2) and both requests were added a few days apart.

I won't pretend to know your backlog and I certainly can't speak for everyone, but wouldn't it be more prudent to focus on the basics your users are requesting most, rather than releasing low priority features/improvements just to meet a release schedule? I'm sure those of us that put our eggs in the XD basket and are paying for Adobe CC, would be grateful to see these highly requested features prioritized and brought to the top of your backlog.

Really? 4 years and nothing on this? I'm evaluating XD and I've been able to do this for-EVER in UXPin.
Deal breaker along with the inability to change states on multiple objects with one click/tap/hover.

The more I read through the XD shortcomings with all the requests for basic functionality to build good UI/UX it's becoming more clear its not ready for primetime. Sad too, as I had hopes for XD.

Here is a quick idea of how this tool could be implemented. Have another group right below endcap and allow the user to select which borders/strokes they want to be applied to the rectangle. When selected they will be highlighted in blue.

This is a deal breaker. This feature is to basic to not be in the software. I will start to look for another tool... Maybe figma...

Someone asked for this in 2016--here we are in 2020 and it doesn't exist. I'm starting to think that XD was only meant for people to design stuff for dribbble and not for real-life product design and developer handoff
