Definitely need to be able to have hover trigger artboard changes in prototype and not just clicks. What would be even better (like so much better) would be that when you hover over element A in a prototype it makes element B (which is hidden) visible until you stop hovering over element A. This would allow dropdown menus, button and link hover states, action buttons that appear when you hover over an image (like a profile photo). So when you're building the prototype, instead of choosing an artboard for your target, you would choose from a list of hidden elements (on the same artboard) to show while mousing over.
Obviously, showing hidden elements on the same artboard should work for clicking and tapping and scrolling too. (Imagine that when you scroll down the page, headers and footers can appear!
These hidden elements can have transitions when they appear, too. Let's say you click on a dropdown and you want a hidden menu to appear below it. The menu (a rectangle) could slide down from the top of the empty space where it will be. (see screenshot for example)
