Image cropping / repositioning within shape mask (after dragging bitmap into a shape)
Provide the ability to reposition/move images within masks.
If you make a mask via Object > Mask With Shape, then you can double-click into it to reposition the image (or other content) within the mask.
However, if you drag an image file onto a shape, it gets masked by the shape and you CANNOT reposition the image or adjust the cropping. It is auto-cropped to fill the shape when you resize it, but you don't currently get full control of the cropping.

Furthermore, there seems to be a complication if you do not do these in the correct steps. For example, the "tutorial" in the Preview edition of XD seems to not allow image positions adjustments after dragging. But what I typed below should help temporarily. I do hope this is fixed, as it would greatly increase the usability of this feature.

First, you must drag an image into the file from finder, onto an artboard, resize the image to a suitable size to fit the artboard. Then, draw the shape of the mask you want with the shape tools on the left toolbar. Third, select both the image and the shape, go to "Object" > "Mask with Shape". From there, you can adjust the position of the image within the shape/mask by double clicking which you will see displays the image within the mask.
Hope this helps!

Yup, would be great to be able to re-position image within a mask. Doesn't seem to be possible; despite comment below.

will this feature to edit the objects within include the ability to apply options like scale-to-fit and scale-to-fill?

If I want a color or image for the background, I should have to add an actual object or image. If not, that background should be transparent to the previous storyboard

As of now if you drag an image from Finder to a vector object in Adobe XD, it becomes the fill of the object. Moving forward, we plan to change this behavior, so that you could edit the mask and the image(s)/object(s) masked.

1. 0.5.0.4 Beta
2. Drag and drop image into a shape to make a mask
3. To be able to frame the picture inside the mask (like indesign and even illustrator can already do)
4. The picture is not selected, and no control can be directed to it.

I don’t understand why XD handles images dragged into shapes differently than images dragged onto the artboard and masked afterwards. If I drag an image into a shape, shouldn’t the shape work like a mask? Plus, currently a masked image can’t have a border (while a shape with an image dragged inside can have a border). On the other hand, a masked image can be adjusted after masking (while an image dragged inside a shape can’t be adjusted after the fact). I think this is confusing.

When images are dropped into placeholder boxes they should be auto masked allowing content to be adjusted within the borders of the masked shape once it is placed.

it works for masked objects but not if you draw a scaled rectangle or elipse and then drag an image to it… you can't then reposition it – which is a bit of a pain!

This is possible now. If you double click on a masked object, you should see the underlying image that you can move around.
