Artboard Overlays (sidebar / menu / popup) in interactive prototypes
Hi there, currently the only interaction is a page switch with some easing functions, but when you click a button, it would be nice that you van select a artboard that you can use as a "overlay" over another artboard. So that way you can create lightboxes in your protytype.
We’re so excited to announce that overlays are now available in our June release! With this feature, you can set any artboard as the overlay target of another artboard and visually place it in the right place in the viewport. Please do let us know what improvements you’d like to see in this feature as individual tickets in UserVoice – we’re listening!

Brilliant idea! Using the artboards we already have is the most minimal and elegant solution ever! Eat your own dog food :-).

I really want XD to work for me. I've been an Adobe user since '92. But lately they really are seeing a lot of competition. Until XD supports overlays as well as sticky headers and footers XD will never be an option. Until then I'm sticking with Sketch and Invision.

As a UI/UX prototype designer and my commitment to Adobe for almost 16 years. I demand a better software :D
I jumped on XD as soon as they put it to the public to test it.
But, until now I can't see the main feature that is very essential for any prototype designers to have which are the floating item (to let designers choose what item they want it to stay in the same position during scroll down/up or left/right) and a simple timer transition splash screen to the main/home screen without touching the screen to move to next slide. regardless of the repeating grid and live preview on mobile the rest of the app is very similar to powerpoint right now. I am 100% sure that the developing team has all this in their mind and even more...
I demand better software and I expect better from Adobe

Couldn't one just "fake" this behavior, by creating the overlay screen as another artboard?

Yep, this is the single feature that keeps me using Sketch over XD. I design for desktop apps where an overlay is essential. Please build this if you'd like to be a contender.

Bit difficult to fully implement a prototype without this sort of functionality. I was just about to add this to my wireframe but then found there wasn't an obvious way to do it.

Until this feature is added I'll have to continue using other solutions. This feature should be top of the list. I'm still amazed this feature isn't already in XD.

Guys, this is real, can we have any feedback? :) When can we expect this updated?

Adding this feature will make me drop InVision for good when presenting prototypes. I still need to export images, import to invision to have overlays, popups and sticky header/footers. Please, please implement this feature.

Feature started over a year ago? Is this serious? I do not think so. I'm not complaining that the feature is still not implemented (there are hundreds of requests and you have to prioritise) but setting a feature as started when it is clear that it was not is strange behaviour from you.

Would be great, need for lightbox popup.

This was legit the first question I asked when I was first using XD. I hope it gets implemented soon!

Any news with this? any release date estimated? This is killing me...

when creating link to artboard from an asset with in other artboard, I want the artboard to overlay on existing artboard as this artboar covers only half of the existing artboard

So very tired of faking these interaction with unnecessary art boards.
Progress report?
I'll sing XD praises on Twitter when this feature finally becomes available.

Any progress? XD can't seriously compete with Sketch + InVision without this.

Andrea commented
I'm waiting for that, I'm still using Sketch with Invision because of that, I just need that :(

Dev team, where are we at on this one?

Any progress on this or a roll out date? Not sure why this hasn't already been added.

What is going on here? This is such basic functionality to creating a prototype.
