Layout Grid (Columns, Rows, Margins, Gutter)
Have an ability to display a grid/guides mainly for web design use cases.
As you’ve probably noticed, we’ve delivered Layout Grids in the November release of XD. We’d love specific feedback on Layout Grids as we continue to grow, so I’m closing this feature request. If you have specific additional functionality you’d like to see in the Layout Grid feature, please do file it as a new feature request in the Design feature area!
Thanks,
-Elaine

This is completely, totally necessary. I'm using the app for a client right now, and I keep wanting to go back to Sketch + Invision for this reason alone. So much harder when you can't use a proper layout view!

Agreed. I am currently working on a 1200px grid system design, and for now I have to make the grid manually.

This feature is the most important feature for me, I can't start a new design without columns.

As a very typographic minded person I would like to see two things:
Being able to create margins by adding a container to an artboard and setting a grid within this container instead of only having a grid that covers the entire artboard.
Being able to create a design grid with rows and columns and to overlay this design grid onto a grid with the basic unit upon witch the design grid is build (for true atomic design).

maybe improve also the possibility measure object in vh and vw

Similar to what Muse offers.

I think having the ability to set the size of any object as a percentage instead of a set pixel dimension would help with this feature.

As a lot have already told, the grid is very rudimentary. Units are missing, making it very unclear, and it is very difficult to adjust with most mobile screen sizes because of that.
I think we all know it's the debut of the software, but come on, grids, rulers and colums, this is what responsive design for web or mobile is based on ! This should be where everything starts...Thank you though for the first grid iteration. It is better than nothing, but I know it can certainly go further :)
PS : Would it be possible too, to enable the show/hide grid command (command+') anytime, and not only when an artboard or an element is selected ? It can be annoying when you deselect everything to avoid moving items by accidents, but you still want to check your layout out, with and without grid, switching.

It'd be great if this was percentage based. I use a percentage based grid system when designing for the (responsive) web, and no other app supports this out of the box.

missing still the possibility to make a webbased grid like 12 columns, gutter etc. :/

You don't seem to understand users.

The newly implemented grid is nice, but just like Ian Armstrong and Brian Skene are saying, not what I was hoping for. I was hoping for a way to set a column layout.

The ruler is a killer feature for me. It's the easiest way to align objects, e.g. to place the content inside the borders.

Oh yes, please! Sketch does it perfect. And you can improve on it by allowing to show the guides/columns in the back.

Yes, that is unclear. Adobe, could you please put the measurement units next to the figure for the grid. So we all know. Perhaps measurement unit options? Cheers

Is the grid in points? so the default in 8pt, right?

As a UX lead, I literally cannot imagine my team prototyping without the Sketch 3 custom layout tool. EMC uses a very specific column setup and our specs need to adhere to it specifically. Grid lines and rulers are useful but the real killer app is the layout grid with an optional vertical rhythm.

Bit disappointed with the April square grid, It doesn't seem particularly useful, couldn't we have a grid where we set the number of column, margins and gutters and it sets it for the artboard size

The newly added grid feature is a decent start, but not what I've been hoping for. I need more control to create custom grids with independently sized gutters and columns before I can even begin to think of adding XD to my toolbox. And rulers are a must!

What about Bootstrap Grid System for web design in Xd?
