Import Photoshop / PSD
Import Photoshop file with options to select layers and/or artboards.
This would increase ease of use and workflow, so a user is not always switching between apps. Import options for layers, artboards, or even layer comps, would also cut down a lot of rework.
Hi everyone,
I’m glad to announce that we’ve just released this feature!
You can bring your Photoshop files into XD by simply opening a PSD file with the CMD-O command or by selecting “Open” from the “File” menu. Your file will automatically convert into a new XD file with your artboards, layers, and assets editable and at a high fidelity.
You can find more details about March release here:
https://theblog.adobe.com/march-2018-update-adobe-xd/
Note that we bring in Photoshop elements and effects that can be mapped to XD’s functionality, the rest are either rasterized or not transferred yet to the XD file. Learn more about what is supported here:
https://helpx.adobe.com/xd/kb/open-photoshop-files-in-xd.html
Let us know your feedback.
Thanks,
Dan

Generate Xd project from PSD (somewhat same concept as Edge Reflow currently supports).
I am often asked to provide design as a PSD file to a client or developer; I am also asked to provide a prototype.
It would be great if I could generate Xd project from my PSD file - transfer all artboards, layers, objects, text, effects etc - so I could create a prototype efficiently and fast.
It would allow me to do all required work without doing same thing twice just in different software.

I would like to have everything that comes from Photoshop into Xd.
Everything except probably the raster effects.
Layers that are being masked from an object would be astounding. also Smart Object being editable as well and not the kind of Smart Objects that are from Illustrator. I hate having to open a Smart Object in Photoshop and edit it in Illustrator. What I want is the ability to edit the actual Smart Object from Photoshop in Xd. That would be amazing.
Entire designs with artboards would make the happiest boy on the planet.

We need the ability to import designs from PS. Not just assets, entire designs. Why? Because that's what we've used for a very long time, and you can't expect us to just drop it and move to XD. I LOVE xd and what you guys have done, and i can't wait to start using it on my Windows, but please don't just discard PS and AI and say "why do you need it".

Hi, first of all great job for the work and dedication you have, I really like the outcome and glad for your plans.
I'm really missing now support of PSD files. What I mean is especially before moving completely to the Xd from PS (which is basic tool in our team) I would like to be able to continue my work done in PS and not redoing it from scratch (import PSD). Some people won't move to xD and they will prefer to have PSD file as a output final file, so export to PSD would save in this case.
I understand that PSD is an old and heavy type of format and is really tricky integration, but since everything is from Adobe I would like to have this option. Because until now we didn't have a dedicated tool for UI design would be great to have this smooth transition.
At least cross integration as smart objects in PS from .ai files and editable objects in parent software (Photoshop or Illustrator) for inIndesign would be enough. So please take into consideration and this approach.
Thanks and good luck with development ;)

In PhotoShop, I can tag layers or groups with the suffix .png that I want exported as an individual image. PhotoShop creates a folder that watches the PSD file and continuously updates the contents as I edit the file. Could you port similar functionality into Xd, whereby you import a linked PSD artboard where certain layers or groups have been identified as separate "smart" components that can be moved around in Xd as needed?

Let's say I need to update a website design I made 3 years ago in Photoshop.
Client wants to make a change to the website to update the website.
Using Xd would be a faster process, then using Photoshop.
Being able to exchange between the two would allow this: Adding a raster texture over an in Photoshop, would allow this overlay to appear in Xd, since raster textures cannot be made from scratch in Xd. By changing the PSD it automatically updates to the Xd.
Or let's say I want to use a custom image with a texture as a mask
(example: look at the style on "Every" it has a halftone mask on the type layer http://prntscr.com/aghqrq) but I want to use it. There's no way to create something like that in Xd, except having to use vector overlays, but that's not always the case, what if I want a different raster texture, or something non-vector. Can't be made without doing it in Photoshop first.I would have to do this: I have to make the type in Photoshop apply the mask, then have to bring into Xd, and then fix placement and scale.
However let's say I want to adjust the kerning of the type. I have to go back to photoshop make adjustments, and then export the png, then import, replace and rescale.
This takes a lot of time, but If could open the Xd file in Photoshop, apply the texture, and then save the Photoshop document, as a Xd file that automatically updates. That would be an easier process.
The problems I have with Xd is that it forces designers to use vector based shapes and pigeon holes designers to this Flat Design UI. Not all of us are flat designers. I think that Adobe Xd should be able to exchange information back and forward to Photoshop, for the people who have used Photoshop for the last decade, also for updating their older files. I cannot stress this enough, when it comes time to work on an old PSD of a website, in order to update it, but I would become frustrated when I am forced to use Photoshop again when Xd would be so much easier to use.
There's also instances when working with designers that were outsourced. Some many have CS6 and do not have Creative Cloud. If they were to hand me off a PSD from Photoshop CS6 of their design, I have to recreate it in Xd. That's not only unfair to me, but to the owners of CS6 package who do not have Creative Cloud. However if they did send me a PSD that I could open in Xd, that would be more fair to me, the owner of a Creative Cloud membership, then to be out of luck and still have to work in Photoshop and not this great program.
@Joan I appreciate what you have given us so far, but Xd needs to really focus allowing designers to update their older PSD files, instead of making new files. How can you expect ui designers to try Xd without letting them open an older PSD file, and allow them to see how much easier Xd really is.

My 2¢, but why would you want to bring in Psd or Id files into XD? Xd will become a bloated app much like P/shop became and why the multitudes left in droves to Sketch.

These days i love to work with layer comps to work out the states of features i'm designing.
It would be awesome if i could import them into UX and make it interactive.
I'm using Invision for this now but the options for interactivity would probably be better when everything stays inside the adobe platform. -

I would love to see being able to send design with artboards to XD. Here's why, I work primarily in Photoshop, and when I present clients with wireframes, it would be nice to show them the flow in action. Yes I realize there's other ways to approach this, but it would be nice to record the flow the way XD handles it.

The ability to convert PSD artboards into XD.
To automatically get all the bitmap images and turn smart objects from illustrator into vectors.
And grab the typography information as well. Like character spacing, line spacing, fonts, colour and etc.

This would be huge. Being able to bring in whole projects would be great. That said, the thing that makes photoshop and artboards great in the first place is the ability to use smart objects and the compatibility with illustrator. I'm a UX instructor and currently we're forced to teach Sketch and Invision. The biggest problem with Sketch is the lack of shortcuts and the lack of integration with Illustrator. Invasion is wonky, but has it's benefits. I push people to Pixate.

This would make it so I can take wireframes and import into Photoshop to do more complex layout designs without having to recreate work.

Either as a Smart object, or the way indesign handles their ellements

When I paste a vector from Ai to Photoshop, I can choose among Shape, Vector Smart Object and Pixel. I think this is a good solution for AI/PS to Xd workflow.

Additionally, tools like these are hard to integrate into workflows with wider audiences. For example, at our agency, a fundamental sign off deliverable is a PSD. While it maybe the wrong attitude, getting this process change is slow and difficult. It's also difficult to change that workflow when other designers are less open to new tools. Additionally, using older files becomes difficult. We're constantly updating PSD's. Having to create these again means the resource cost is too high and we wouldn't be able to use the newer tools. Even if they're more suitable to the task in hand. This is when inVision is a key winner as it works with new and old tools/files.
Being able to play together seamlessly will allow this program to be used across the team gradually without the risk of significant change. We're noticing this with sketch at the moment as we start to move to a inVision deliverable rather than a PSD.

Entire designs, similar pattern to Image Import Options within InDesign
- Turn on/off specific layers (via Layer Sets)
- Selection of Layer Comps
As well as the Object Layer Options within InDesignThis would allow users to build in a familiar tool (Photoshop), selecting layers/layers comps for various states and artboards (XD). These of course should be linked assets for ease of updates.
Components/ Objects should be linked in addition to libraries, considering old school pasting workflows. See the other request for this topic: https://adobexd.uservoice.com/forums/353007-adobe-xd-feature-requests/suggestions/12869109-linked-objects

Hey Joan, also a problem in sketch was, that I was not able to place photoshop files in sketch. It was transformed to jpg or bitmap. The best way would be to do it like it is solved in indesign. I want to place artworks (for example background images) in the design (cause XD is not there for editing pictures - please do not start mixing functions with photoshop. Photoshop is perfect for creating Artworks, XD should stay a clean UX Tool).
If I change the Photoshopfile, XD should notice this and ask to update the link - like it is in indesign - absolutely easy. A dream would be, if on double click photoshop opens the file automatically and I can edit it.
In Photoshop it was cool with smart objects, but the main file size was growing very large if you used much big artworks and the whole program turned very slow, this was very annoying.
If the preview-mode is better than in indesign, this would be a very nice solution (maybe safe the ps-preview as jpg in the design, but keep it editable every time) -

I would like to at least be able to drag and drop a PSD onto an element and have it dynamically update, similar to the "place" functionality in the other Adobe apps.

Without this, how can I use old photoshop documents?
How can I go back and forth from Photoshop to XD?
I find that not being able to go back and forth between the two, makes for harder integration, when trying to use old PSDs. Especially if Adobe is phasing out Photoshop for Web Design.

Most important part in this is to be able to keep a good workflow for CC users who made the choice to pick an "All Adobe Solution" and expect this as a minimum :) The efforts made into "Extract" shall be there.
