[Windows] Mask with shape
I'd like to create a clipping mask in Windows using any shape or path.
Mask with Shape is now available in the April release of XD for Windows! Download it today from your Creative Cloud desktop app – if it doesn’t show up, click the gear icon and select “Check for App Updates.”

1. Great commenting that the feature has been finally baked in.
2. WHY NOT ALSO SHOW HOW TO USE IT?
3. Had to read through all the comments and watch a video to finally come to terms that there are essentially 2 'masking options for XDW:a. Drag an image onto the shape.
b. Ctrl+Shift+M after you place the on image atop the other.UPDATE: Also I was going ape-shit following a video ion how to change the shape within a mask group, and tried all sorts of shortcuts less sacrificing a pigeon, then then accidentally realize that the only way to do this is to select the tiny flipping edge of the shape in that mask group otherwise you are forced into the image object of the group constantly.
I'm so close to just trashing this tool and going to FIGMA.

So, the command is available via keystroke combination, but if one doesn't know the keystroke combo, there is no way to tell how to do this. Please add to the hamburger menu or context menu or SOMEWHERE. Thank you!

My "Mask with Shape" isn't working. Can I please get some help. I'm on a MAC and have CC installed. Just downloaded the newest XD and it won't let me mask the image to the circle. See attached image

I had to select the 2 shapes, click with right button, and select "Mask with shape". The shape in front will be the mask, all selected shapes above it, will be inside it. The shortcut is Ctrl + Shift + M.

You can drag an image from outside of XD and drop it on a shape to create an image fill.
Starting with version 9, you can double-click to edit the size and position of the image fill.
Starting in version 10, you can copy an image outside of XD and then "Paste Special" to create an image fill in selected shape.
If you want something different then please provide more details.
Thanks,

For those who could not succeed with the method provided by Laura: if your desired shape is rectangular, you can use an artboard in stead of a shape.
That is not perfect, but for some reason converting into a symbol did not work for me. -

I FIGURED OUT HOW TO DRAG & DROP!
I knew it had to work because I was able to drag & drop onto a shape in the tutorial. Here's the trick:
- Open the Layers window
- Right click on the shape you want to drag & drop to
- Click "Make Symbol"You can now drag & drop to the shape and it will automatically mask the image. <3
HOTKEY - click on the shape and hit "Ctrl + K" to turn it into a symbol without opening Layers.
You're welcome. ;)

As it is, you can't actually work trhough the application's own tutorial(!) on windows 10. You'll get stuck on step 3 when you drag in an image to the grey circle and won't get a mask. It's really puzzling to me how a reputable company like Adobe can release a product that is missing features so elementary that you can't even go through the tutorial you are supposed to do, leaving the user utterly confused. It would be much better not to release it at all unless all core features are available.

Elaine, thanks for your reply. It was hard figuring out how to use it (selecting both images and the shape, then right-click "Mask with shape").
But thank you very much, now XD is somewhat usable on Windows. -

Masking images is such a basic necessity. If it's not coming out soon (like next release) can the developers at least give us a timeline of when to expect masking?

Agreed with the comments. It's compounded by the fact that I can't copy shapes from Xd to other CC programs like Illustrator/Photoshop.
