Layers Panel
It would be a good way to organize elements if we have the layer panel. Locking and unlocking elements is just a click away.
With our November release, we now have contextual layers. For enhancements to this feature, please file separate ideas in UserVoice.

Layers are great for being able to select items that are behind other items. I just had to select an item that was behind other assets and I could not. I had to send the top items to the back, before I could select what I wanted, change it, and then fix again the order of the assets.

Layers is great to quickly make changes. I just had to change the navigation, and it was painful. If all the assets of the navigation were in one layer (like in Illustrator), I could have just selected just that layer in all the screens, changed size, move it, or delete it, all at once in all the pages.

I'm actually glad there are no layers anymore. If you introduce layers to Xd, please make it optional so I can hide this feature.

Instead of 'layers', or even smart layers, what about Layer Stacks?
A Layer Panel only identifies 'Layer Stacks' on the current Artboard you are inspecting.
Reason:
- If I only have one object in the z-space I don't need layers to select that object.- If I have 4 objects and I create a 'Layer Stack' and give it a name, it becomes easier to discover and then interact with the 4 objects.
Layer Stack Panel:
- Header (5 objects)
- HTML Ad (15 objects)
- Article Image (3 objects)
- Footer (12 objects)Layer Stacks can then also be used to contain and work on animations, responsive layouts, etc in an isolation mode.

How to access objects under objects.
Most of the time I need to use Layers Panel to access underlying 'objects'. If I could right-click on the 'object on top' and see a 'list' of all objects underneath I could then access the object '3 layers' deep.

This feature is very important for me. It would be nice to have the ability to move this panel around like in other Adobe products.
I would use this for easily managing visibility of elements (quick prototype viewing) and being able to select specific elements if they are layered (in the view) over each other. -

Layers view becomes overloaded too quickly. Also, it is usually more efficient to keep as little groups and layers as possible.

Layers would be very useful to me. It just provides a quick way for me to get to the part of the design I wish to edit.

Please make it super easy to drag & drop, reorder, rename, and group layers. ESPECIALLY please make it easy to visually identify a layer: for instance, in Sketch, the layer icon represents what it is, and if it's a vector shape, it simply shows the shape as the icon.

I'm definitely down for a layers controller of some sort, but for the record I would settle for any kind of layer ordering control, doesn't necessarily need to be a panel.

Please add it photoshop-tyle. Not sketch style.

The most used feature of a design app - layers and they don't add it in at the very beginning. Durrr.

Also, sometimes I design something and than decide to not wanting to see it because Maybe I dont want to use it. But maybe later in the project I want it back. Now I have to delete an object, in stead of just turning the visibility off. And I have to redesign it, and sometimes I can not remember how it looked exactly. I want layers... :-)

I hope this feature comes very soon. I really love to work in XD. Really a fan already, but I miss the layer panel so very much, things are getting in the way while designing! Having layers (and artboards overview maybe) makes things organized! For example; when I design a dropdown, I want to switch the visibility off so that I can see the layers below it again to get a view of how it looks when the dropdown is not open. And I also request the feature to add a toggle, so in that my dropdown (for example) is toggle-ble. :-)
Also the export feature (from a layer) was superfast and relaxed to work with. Especially when the layer had a good name and my PNG/SVG of whatever.

I have to say, no layers is kind of great I think... Especially if 'symbols' are introduced so that repeated elements can be selected and actioned en masse.
