Export to PDF: Problem with masked images in a shape
Hi,
When I export my artboards to PDF format, Images which are masked with shape are misplaced. I've attached the images from my Artboard and image from the exported PDF format for the comparison & reference. Please look into it as soon as possible.
Thank you.
Thanks for your feedback. This seems to be a known bug with Apple Preview and not a problem with how we are generating PDFs. Please do check to see if this opens successfully in Acrobat Reader – if you’re still seeing this issue, please do file it in our Community Support forums: https://community.adobe.com/t5/adobe-xd/bd-p/xd?page=1&sort=latest_replies&filter=all

I use masked images very often within Adobe XD. This bug in OS X, no matter if the responsibility lies at Adobe or Apple's garden, makes the XD pdf export unusable. And while you don't seem to be even working on it - just yesterday I got an email that the export which doesn't work will now only be available for higher tiers of Adobe XD subscriptions. Please, fix this, or we have no choice but to move to something like Figma.

This bug is soo annoying. Please fix it. Masks should work the same way they do in the other softwares.
Otherwise, what is the point of using a masks? It makes the much needed functionality redundant. -

I had the same problem - opening the PDF in illustrator and resaving it fixed the problem; file now looks fine in Apple Preview.

Hello,
I am having the same issue. Has this bug been addressed yet? It seems it's pretty important to be able to correctly export PDFs...

Please address this issue.
Masking is a part of regular workflows, and is common to Photoshop as well as Illustrator. The workaround described below (Brian Brinkman) appears to suggest I have to remember not to use masks if I expect to share proofs with a client. Instead, I need to remember that to share work with clients, I must build my design in a new way that utilizes shapes and "Paste Appearance". What is so different between these two methods, which both achieve the same outcome while I'm in the tool, that the export becomes scrambled on one, and not the other? Please prioritize this bug.

It's very frustrating, please fix this problem. Other software, like Sketch, doesn't have this problem with Apple Preview.
I can't explain every time to my clients "Don't open with Apple Preview". It's insane. Please do something.

Here is a fix that worked for me. If you create a rectangle in XD, and drag and drop your image into the rectangle, the image in the PDF looked correctly in Apple Preview and Adobe Acrobat.
Conversely, when I had the image in XD, drew the rectangle, hit 'Mask with shape (Shft CMD M), those images in the PDF looked messed up in Apple Preview and Adobe Acrobat. Hope this helps and works for others!

STILL A PROBLEM. Masked images get completely distorted when exporting to a PDF format.

This is a problem with how you generate PDFs as long as all otfer PDFs generated from other programs work perfectly well, but not those generated from Adobe XD. Pleasefix this bug ASAP.

Export those masked photos in PNG then again place in design. This time those images will not make issues during PDF export.

I’m having the same issue. And it isn’t just with Preview on Mac. It’s also in Safari on my iPhone. And I’ve read other people reporting the issue in other programs as well. The problem is, we can’t tell our clients or colleagues that they MUST open a document in Acrobat for it to work. That’s not ok.

This is an actual bug. When you mask an image with a shape and export the artboard to PDF and open the document on your phone, then the image disappears and is replaced with a black shape. If you open that same PDF on desktop again, then it's fine.
