XD's "Preferences" menu is grayed out. Why not just make it disappear until XD is ready to have a Preferences menu.
It's a bad experience to see something that you can't touch. What a tease! Well, at lease in the case of XD, the grayed out "Preferences" menu is a bad experience.
Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, this is a Mac platform limitation, so not something we can do.

figma is so much better than XD - and im a day one XD user. i just got a file from a mac user and my menus are grey with white fading at the edges - that cant be the design! im looking for dark mode, any mode, to change the colour of the ui or something - fairly disheartening.

This is absolutely NOT a Mac platform limitation, plenty of Mac apps have no preferences menu item, including some stock Apple ones (stocks, system preferences, etc), and tons of third-party ones (docker desktop, etc).
Even Adobe's own (now defunct) Flash Player.app bundled with Animate doesn't have a preferences menu.
So clearly it is possibile to remove this menu item from XD rather than just disabling it.

To clarify -- the actual problem here is that XD does not have preferences, in either Windows or Mac.
The "Apple limitation" stated here means that Apple requires them to have a preferences menu, so Adobe includes the menu option and leaves it greyed out.
It seems like a bigger UX fail to not have any preferences at all.
The feature request to add actual Preferences for XD is here: https://adobexd.uservoice.com/forums/353007-adobe-xd-feature-requests/suggestions/33361459-preferences

It is so odd that Preferences appear in Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign and all of my other Adobe programs. I wonder why Apple only seems to target XD for this feature.

giving me more and more reasons to shift to Figma. Adobe XD keep up your game or you going to lose many.

Makes no sense at all. What makes XD different to all othert Adobe apps?

So are you saying that only PC users can access their preferences in XD, and mac users will never have access to a preferences area because of a mac limitation? That seems strange to me...
