Allow users to adjust the frequency of auto-save or to turn auto-save on / off
(posted in the right forum this time)
As a user, I want to be able to adjust the auto save frequency on cloud documents so that I have more control over my system and my file, and my workflow is not interrupted.
Right now, the auto save seems to save my work every X edits, which would be great if XD didn't slow down or freeze during this, unfocus typing, and generally interrupt my entire workflow.
For example this just happened to me again: I manually saved a document. Then I clicked into an element (not component) and adjusted the text, then I clicked on the parent element and used alt+drag
it to create a copy. While dragging, the auto save feature kicked in, which unfocused my alt+drag
, leaving the parent element moved instead moving a duplicate element. Pressed ctrl+z
, then used alt+drag
on the parent element again, only to have auto save invoked again only this time after I regained control, XD registered the alt+drag
on a different element, creating a copy of that one.
Imagine this and similar situations literally 10-12 times an hour. Because you can only use cloud documents to create design systems and you can't replace a cloud document with a different local version, this undesirable execution of a feature makes using design systems difficult.
Please consider allowing us to adjust the frequency of auto save for cloud documents, or at the least allow us to turn off auto save.
Thank you for your time!

Would love the be able to turn off the synching and turn it on again once I've finished designing. I'm losing so much time because it auto-saving all the time and takes forever now for each auto-saving.
I can wait minutes for a simple change of colour! -

I'm thinking of moving back to Figma because this wastes so much time. No words can describe how much I hate autosave.
Please allow us to control the auto save by frequency and turning it on or off and also when use save file then it save on cloud. -

No words can describe how much I hate autosave. I am the only one in our organisation using XD, so no need to sync between users at all. Product master file is huuuge so it takes forever to save plus save intervals are super-tight so I can never get anything done. Can't work like this, please add some UX to this software (sarcasm) and add an on/off option for autosave!
The original post is like 3 years old so not going to hold my breath... thanks Adobe

I'm thinking of moving back to Figma because this wastes so much time. Literally I could do the same work 2x as fast if I was not waiting for the file to sync every minute.

Please Adobe XD Engineering and PM teams look into this asap. Its annoying that we don't have that option offered. I NEED to have the option to set the frequency of my file auto-saving

My problem with auto saving is when I'm editing it interrupts the input edits I'm making. For example adjusting a height of shape using up and down arrow in the option panel, when auto save runs it unselect the input field for adjusting the height and its annoying that I need to go back to the field again.
Please allow us to control the auto save by frequency and turning it on or off. and please don't make it interrupts our input changes.

I agree it is a unproductive option, waisting time on waiting for the autosave to stop and/or doing again changes because the autosave stop the action. As a student I'm wodering if i would save time by using a other software event if i need to learn how to use it from scratch

For the love of god let me turn this feature off; have you actually tried building a prototype in XD that's more than 5 pages? I can't do anything with everything being tied up in XD continuously autosaving; I'm saving one freaking text character change at a time, it's crazy - it takes me 15min to change a 5 letter bit of text. Just let me turn this thing OFF.

my workflow is broken
i cant change the name from an component cause i have to wait until the autosave is finished
after every single changei have to build an icon bibliothek with more than 700 components
now I need 10 times longerare you serious!
Has anyone of you ever seen the other programs in the Adobe collection?
Functions that have been working for ages don't work in xd -

Yes, this is a productivity show-stopper...plus XD 'forgets' how to hand back text editing capabilities sometimes (my workaround is to switch to Notepad...write a few characters, then switch back to XD and regain editing functionality.
Either offer the opportunity to turn it off....or choose longer times between 'auto-saves'....something like every 20 min | 40 min | 60 min.

How can Adobe XD have no preferences options like any other application out there? The automatic saving is causing tons of issues to me and my team! especially when there is no option to REVERT back to the original or open state.

maybe the user could have the option to select the when to auto save, like every
☑ 5 minutes
☑ 10 minutes
etc -

It's creating a mess of documents with all the additional autosave copies! It definitely slows production down and at this point, it's more harmful than helpful. Please give us the option!

Guess what happened to me yesterday: in the very moment when I opened a document, it started to save automatically. But the connection was unstable. So whe the auto save was done, it was time to auto save againg. So I can't work or close the file :(

This is an extremely painful productivity destroyer. It's made me question the decision to use XD regularly.
If it's network traffic that's making it so slow, maybe save locally, then sync to the cloud in the background? Plus giving people an option to make the interval greater?

It would be nice if you could develop a button or toggle that allows users to choose whether XD automatically saves your project while you are working on it. Despite how useful it is for Adobe XD to autosave every 2 minutes while I'm working and inconvenience me with minor freezes, I do occasionally want to turn this feature off when I alter certain files without saving the changes. I hope you take this feedback into account.

Please, this is so much needed
It's horrible to work with big files because of this. I just saved and moved an item and then autosaves again, what a waste of time.

I was in a low internet coverage area and I wasted like 3 hours yesterday waiting for this.
---> Quick fix. turn WiFi off while you work.

+1
It's really annoying to work on a shared document and every slight change causes the document to freeze. The interesting behavior here is that it doesn't work that way when there's someone editing with me at the same time.
The workaround is to save the file locally and then copy/paste it when I'm finished.
