See file/layer structure in design specs
As an added feature, similar to what Avacode and Sympli provide, it would be nice to display the layers panel in design spec mode. The user can select a layer and it will highlight in the document art board.

To make it easier for developers to select elements and help them understand the layout structure. Currently the developers on my team need access to the XD file to better understand the projects and this feature would make it easier

Fully agreed, being able to see the document structure and select something from there would ease the navigation in complex documents
