Create mask from default container
I think it would be a great improvement if the current 'mask with shape' feature also worked by using the default container of an image:
- Select image
- Shift + CMD + M
- Image is now masked within it's default container that you can edit
Thanks!
Note from Randy:
Starting with XD 9, images are already masked with a shape! No need to execute any command.
The shape is a Rectangle with same width and height as image. Double-click in the middle to edit size and position of image fill.
Double-click on border to convert rectangle to a path.

But I can't change the size of the shape! InDesign makes it so easy and intuitive. Why did you do it different in XD?

Liam,
Gotcha. This sounds like a feature request for "Convert to Masked Object".

Hi Randy,
I understand your explanation, but I think there's a part of the equation that is missing – and that is the ability to re-size the shape (mask) without it resizing the photograph within it.
Of course this works if you were to draw a rectangle, then mask it, then edit the mask. I was just hoping we could shortcut that experience.
The current solution differs in the way that any alteration to the rectangle/ image mask will alter the image inside… as opposed to being able to alter then independently of one another.
I hope that makes sense?
Thanks! :-)
