Options for marquee selection modes
One thing I miss from Axure is the ability to select multiple items on the page using two options:
1. everything contained in the selection box gets selected
2. everything intersected by the selection box gets selected
Adobe XD only supports 2. above. When using lots of objects, option 1. often makes this a lot easier. Even selecting from the layers panel this isn't ideal. I'd love something similar to Axure in this respect

Added my vote with importance "Critical." Selecting a set of objects by dragging does not work as expected, is extremely tedious and sometimes impossible.

Was so surprised to find out the feature wasn't already in Xd.

As mentioned by many others, there's a common need to select entire groups of objects regardless of layer without selecting overlapping layers, by marking only layers which are completely encompassed.

In Sketch, a function I use regularly is dragging the marquee entirely around multiple objects - regardless of layer - and the only objects selected are the ones encompassed completely by the marquee selection (e.g. multiple smaller objects on layers on top of several larger layers - much easier to use the described feature than to try and select each smaller object). This is incredibly useful and miss the function in XD.

Hi -
Please consider adding a selection box (created by dragging) that ONLY selects those objects it completely surrounds. I understand Adobe currently uses Command + click (Mac) to enable a selection of an object that is located on a larger object field (like a text field located on a card, for instance), but when you want to select multiple objects that are located on a larger field (for instance, you need to select this text box _and_ a drop-down located on the card, this command is overly manual and therefore clunky and can be improved with the exclusive selection box I've described.
Thank you!

In Sketch, Command-Option marquee is a lifesaver for working fast.
Figma supports this too with command-marquee, which is easy for Sketch users to discover.
In XD, there are no marquee modifiers, and work pace is orders of magnitude slower without this.

Holding a key to not select the layer in the background. Only items inside the marquee area are selected.

An absolute must. I fully support this request.
This feature is done in some 3D software in a very smart way:
1. Drag selection to the left selects only contained objects
2. Drag selection to the right holds everything that intersectI'm working with lot of elements on prototype, constantly moving things around in different groups. Having this will be huge time saver. Now I'm doing temporary grouping all the time, just to have easy way to drag things around.

Mode 1 really speeds up the work with manipulating multiple shapes, especially in components. This would be a huge time saver in XD.

At this point, XD selection inflexibility is the only thing that keeps me on Sketch.

We need this option. This is the biggest problem I am facing in adobe xd. At least give us option to turn this on and off.

When will this be possible? Not having this feature is a pain!

Yes! This would be a massive time saver (and is present in Axure and Sketch) - it's so painful without it.

I often need to quickly select multiple artboards and layers that I have next to them (WIP elements, text infos), and drag the whole thing to another place on the canvas (or cut, copy, paste).
When I drag to select, and there is an artboard in the selection, it deselects the layers that are outside the artboards.
Please allow selecting of everything in the dragged are.
