Drag and drop layers inside the mask group.
Please provide an option to move layers inside the mask group.
As we haven’t seen a response to our question in three months, I’m marking it as inactive. Please do feel free to file it again if you still want this feature!
Thanks,
-Elaine

It so so strange and tedious that you can't rearrange the order or layers while a mask is applied to them. Please fix this.

Oh yeah, we definitely want it, thanks.
Oh yeah and I'm keeping myself from pure rage. -

This is a must have for me. My productivity is actually going down (unmasking/remasking or just leave my layers a mess). This is frustrating enough to encourage my client to use another application when we collaborate.

Ridiculous Adobe! It should have been a MUST HAVE feature long time ago, but still it's only a request.

Definitely need this feature, not sure why this limitation was placed in the first place. Why not allow drag and drop regardless of whether or not it is within a mask?

Please make this work... You should be able to drag and image into an already existing mask, paste appearance doesn't work (at least in my case). I need to unmask > reorder my elements > and then apply mask again. Pretty ridiculous workflow if you ask me.
Need to add a new/another image into a masked shape? Simple, expand the mask and drag where needed > Done. Use this flow, please.
Thanks

Why oh why, i cant simply drag layer from outside the masking group into the masking group.... i have first cut the layer, select masked group in layer panel and paste my element... and then struggle to reorganize in masked group my element... soooo... instead of 1 step like in illustrator, photoshop etc, im forced to do 3-4 steps extra... which sucks...

Kind of ironic that this is supposed to be an app to create a good user experience, yet fails to deliver a good user experience itself!

So really? you can't drag and drop layers inside a mask??? are you fu*&%ing kidding me??????? I'm going back to sketch. THere's way too many things that make XD a pain:
1. no rulers or guides. why?
2. cannot replace a symbol with another symbol.
3. cannot click on an object (control click in sketch) to find it's layer
4. cannot drag and drop layers inside a mask. absolutely nuts.
I've only been working in XD for 1 day. Can't wait to see what else doesn't work. Come on Adobe!!!! -

Yeah, this makes ZERO SENSE.
1) I should be able to just paste another object into the mask group, at any time
2) I should be able to drag layers around inside the mask group, just like when they're not masked. What planet are your UX designers on? Seemingly, not this one 😓

This is lame beyond the acceptable. This is a *PAID* tool, for God's sake! It's S-U-P-E-R annoying to work with masking because this lame inability to move layers under a masking group.

Ah — thanks Randy, just discovered that you can use the menu bar / keyboard shortcuts to rearrange layers inside a mask group or symbol. Seems unintuitive though that you can't do this using drag-and-drop in the layers panel.

> layers cannot be reorganized or reordered inside a mask group.
Correct, layer order can not yet be changed in layers panel via drag/drop, but you can do this with commands in the Object > Arrange menu (on Mac) or the right-click > Arrange menu (on Windows) without un-masking and re-masking.
Hope this helps,

Hello Elaine, well i'll answer for now.
To be more comprehensive, i also noticed that layers cannot be reorganized or reordened inside à mask group.
(as it can be made in photoshop for example).
To do so, i have to ungroup the mask, reorganize order element and make the mask again.
It could be time winning to drag layers directly into the mask group.
Thank you ! -

That functionality was added recently (sorry, I can't remember exact release number). Try this:
1. Copy image
2. Select shape in Adobe XD
3. Paste Appearance (Cmd/Ctrl-Alt-V)Is that what you are looking for?
