Fit Textbox to Text
I love this feature in InDesign and Illustrator. In InDesign if you double click the lower right corner of the textbox it scales to fit. Similarly in Illustrator if you click the handles on the right center or bottom center of the textbox it will scale to fit.
This feature would help better determine handling to padding/margins be more reflective of final development
You can currently fit area text to its content by double-clicking the bottom area text resize handle.
It works both when the text is shorter than the area text box and when the text is larger than the area text box. When the text is larger than the box and truncated, the bottom resize handle will turn red.

XD 28 (March 2020) has just implemented the extend "bottom" of the textarea box to automatically match the text inside. Not width, but just height, useful for longer overrunning paragraphs. This works for both too short and too long boxes. The too short now has a "red" indicator (similar to InDesign)..

I've found helpful to choose my text box to be "area text" vs "point text" (default) on the style menu right hand side

Has this been implemented? we need to fit our text to the text boxes, messes up my alignment and makes life more difficult for devs

This would speed up working with text a lot!

Is this a common feature for adobe xd? So many requests. Should be added fit text to itself like inline-block css.

Also a setting to have the text box bottom align with the baseline or descender. The quick guides are useless for centering and truly understanding context to other items since the textbox is not related to the text itself.

This is very much needed in order to align text to elements quickly.

Yes, please add this feature! If the frame of the text box could be shrunk to exactly fit the text, then the X-Y positioning of the element would be so much easier. You could type in the exact position that you wanted rather than having to position a guide/line at, say, the Y location you wanted and then placing the top of the text by eye on that line. As it is, there's random "padding" around the text, and you have no idea how many pixels that is. It's just a "messy" way of doing things. From an exact positioning standpoint, which is what perfectionist designers like us want, the provided X-Y coordinates that are given are pretty useless. We don't want to set the position of the frame that is around the text (with it's arbitrary padding)... we want to set the position of the actual text.

I wanted to see the adobe Indesign feature I’m so used too
On adobe XD, closing of the text box.
Maybe it’s me but i’m so attached to the shortcut “CTRL ALT + C”
Maybe I have OCD, but I think it’s a must for the user (even if you don’t have this feature on SKETCH).
The logic behind it is when the user is trying to align text boxes he can’t Because the alignment based on the text boxes and if you have different spaces between the text to the box in all the different boxes, you will align them and it will not align correctly.
To solve this problem the user must and I say must first start the text box when clicking on with the type tool on the artboard and then when you finish of writing the text and then the text box will compound the text without spaces between the box frame and the text.
But if the user point click and drags when he is on the type tool there is space between the box frame and the text inside and if you have seperate elements of text they will not align correctly. -

This request needs some more love. It's one of my biggest day-to-day frustrations. And Adobe, when (if) this feature is added, please include a keyboard shortcut.
Side note, here's a similar request that should also get some attention:

Also have a look at how they do it in Axure RP: You can fix width and/or height of a textbox and you can make them adapt to the text content (either the box grows in width or in height).
Also, as the idea opener mentioned handling of padding/margins: It would be great to be able to add paddings to a textbox, so the textbox can be placed exactly at the borders and the text would still keep its defined distance to the borders of the textbox.

This would also help with spacing elements and alignment functions.
